I think I spilled some crumbs on it and the keys keep getting stuck. Is there a way to lift off the keys gently and put them back on or do I need to buy keyboard cleaner? I haven't a clue.

I let it sit overnight, and the progress band had moved only slightly. I have XP with a HP 3300Gig 1000MB 160GB Harddrive.

Here's the situation: my laptop won't boot and can't be fixed by checkdisk. But, when I use a boot disk to load DOS, it can still read most of the drive. So, I want to move my data off. I own the laptop, and can take it apart or remove pieces at will (and have). I do not own a desktop, though I do have access to one, so I'd preffer any sollution be "non-invasive" on the desktop end (hence the 2.5 HDD adaptor is out). Does anybody know of a way I can pull this off?

Have recently bought a laptop (loaded with Vista) which is to be used to produce audio recordings but my existing hardware (external usb audio pre amp) does not have Vista drivers available,

My answer would be to scrub Vista and install XP ... I read that Vista cannot be uninstalled but if I reformat the hard drive and start from scratch then, in my mind, this should work.

Can anyone tell me if I'm making sense with this and what problems I'm going to come up against?

Thanks
Sue :o)

I want to know which notebook you'd prefer. Also, tell me why you prefer this specific notebook. Don't just say " Sony", elaborate on the reasons you would purchase this specific notebook.

My top 4 favorite notebooks:

Acer

Xtreme CTX Pro

Dell XPS M 1710

Voodoo.

If you know of any other top class brand, please let me know...

Do not worry about Money... Money is not my problem.

Also try to compare your likes to dislikes. However, if you think Voodoo is better than Acer, tell me why... Thank you.

If you were imminent to purchase a laptop, which one would you choose?

These would be your concerns:

#1 You want to play games

#2 You want a lightweight notebook

# 3 You need something that looks cool.

#4 You need built in Webcam and Microphone.

#5 Exclud Campaq, HP, and Panasonic.

I'm planning on purchasing a laptop, and I was wondering what kind of accessories are good to buy along with it. Aside from the obvious choices, should I buy an ethernet cable hub, or does wireless access come standard in the machine? (I'm looking at an HP, if that makes a difference)

I have an HP Presario M2000 laptop which, sadly, has met its demise. The screen on the laptop burnt out and now it would just about as much to replace it as it would to buy a new one.

Thus, I am purchasing a new laptop.

What I wish to know is whether or not I could use some of the components (all in working order) of this laptop in my new one. I know I can remove the RAM upgrade that I put inside, but what about the stock RAM? Any use for the hard drive? Processor/Video card?

... I guess that's about it. I can't really see that anything else could even feasibly be useable in another laptop, but hey. Feel free to surprise me.

Thanks in advance for your answers! Peace.

When my laptop broke down I transfered the hard drive into the enclosure thinking I would be able to get the data, but my new laptop wouldn't recognise the hard drive. I thought maybe it was because there was 2 platforms or something. But my friends laptop broke down and I put his hard drive into the enclosure and it worked! it opened up as another drive and he was able to retrieve all his data.
the only difference that I can think off is in my hard drive I used a password to access my account; my friend never had a password.Any ideas on how to get my hard drive to open?
Will I have to boot it from the external drive at the beginning so I can sign in and remove the password?

My laptop is Bluetooth enabled and it runs on Windows XP SP2. Longer battery life is preferred and it needs to have a decent DPI in case I want to play some PC games. Also, please don't just suggest "get a Logitec or Microsoft mouse", give me a model number :)

I turned on my Dell laptop today and it automatically shut off about 3 seconds after pressing the power button...kept doing it every time I tried. Then after some time it did come up, windows xp came up fine, and then at a random time the screen got discolored and froze. Went through this whole cycle about 3 times where sometimes it will automatically shut off after three seconds, and sometimes it will come on but end up freezing...is this a virus or a problem with the hard drive? Do I need to refrag the hard drive? Thanks.

I just don't want to wear down the battery or use a lot of power, so I turn it on and off a lot. I want to know if that will make it wear down more quickly.
