In all honesty, the brand-name of a PC doesn't matter much in terms of the computer's quality, as they all consist of the same basic parts. You should, however, be looking for computers with the system specs you need, at your desired price. For instance, if you like to play games, you'll need more RAM and a good video card. If you want to use it for business, get one with a big hard-drive (so you can save more things), and a wi-fi card (if you think you'll be in places that allow wireless internet access). One difference in brand names is the customer support. I've heard good things about Gateway's tech support and warranties, but still, compare online to other brands to see if any of them offer your desired system specs at a lower price.

Gateway is a pretty good brand; the computer should serve you well enough.

The company that the computer comes from is not as important as its exact specs. Make sure that the computer had the hardware/software to meet your needs, regardless of which company you decide to buy from.

Stay clear my friend. If you want cheap cheap get and HP they have some good deals. Stay away from Dell they are having major internal problems, I think Mr. Dell is coming back. If you want higher end IBM lenovo but you are supporting the chinese, buy china mutual stock, if you want best customer support and ability to run future tech probably and Apple.

they are pretty fast and very tough, a friend of mine dropped it when riding his bicycle and then ran it over. It didn't even effect it.
They are very expensive though.
