I let it sit overnight, and the progress band had moved only slightly. I have XP with a HP 3300Gig 1000MB 160GB Harddrive.

try downloading ccleaner it does a better job and also cleans the registry, google for it or look on filehippo

If this is the first time you have ever used Disk Cleanup, it can take a LONG time to complete. In this case, you can delete things that you don't need yourself, or you can wait for Disk Cleanup to figure out what it can cleanup. Also, if you are doing this because your computer is running slow, I would suggest running Disk Defragmenter before you run Disk Cleanup. Hope this helped and good luck!

Just a little side note: I'm a Mac user, and Mac OS X does everything Disk Cleanup does automatically in the background when needed with barely any performace decrease. Mac OS X is a great OS, and next time you buy a computer, I would highly suggest a Mac. :)
