I have a gateway(to hell) solo 9100 366mhz cpu 208mb ram 256k frontside bus@66mhz. Is it better to use the 2.4.x kernel or the 2.6.x

Recently my mouse and touchpad have started acting up after two years of faithful service. I now have to click fast (hard) on the left button to get my cursor to accept typed letters. Also when I select something the mouse often ends up dragging an icon rather than deselecting after a click. Is this a hardware or software problem? I tried changing mouses (mice?) with no luck. Help! Very annoying...

i lost my start up disks somehow, and now my lap top needs these programs reinstalled, can i move them from my desktop to my laptop somehow?

I have a note book of two years and it seems if i rest my wrist down onto the lap top over where the hard drive is the computer freezes, and slows down most of the time. Example, while playing a game at it's normal rate, before any damage incurred, is now moving slow motion.... I have taken it to a computer place, but they said they may have to replace the whole motherboard. Is there any other possible way to fix this? By the way, another thing is, the clock is always wrong. Even when i fix it, it doesn't keep up with the normal clock pace. Ehm, thank you for your help i really do appreciate it!! P.S. this computer is the most awesomest computer and i hope no ones ultimate answer is to buy a new one -.- !! :P ok have a great day!

like a 2.4 ghz amd is that the same speed as a 2.4 intel. what the diff between and these processor what a good one for a laptop. are laptops procesor always slowers then a desktop. can u go out a buy a better processor and put in any laptop?

I built my PC and it's great. I need to get a notebook. Should I buy a Mac or stick with PC. I dont really know much about Mac, hence why I'm hesitant. I know how to use safari and other basics but I know so much about PC, I'm almost afraid to switch. Thanks

I want to get a new laptop that will both serve my life as a student and a gamer. I want something that will easily run high-end games such as Doom 3 and World of Warcraft. It'd be great if I could find one with wireless internet capabilities. Overall, I am looking for a laptop that has a great video card, memory space, RAM space, and the overall works a gamer needs. I'd like to buy one around $1,500 (764 pounds). I'd also like one that is still pretty new on the market.

how do i decrease the screen brightness of a laptop? I know about the Fn key, but it only goes down to a certain point of ligt and dark. i want to know if there is a program or ways to make it go darker than what it lets you.

Unfortunately, my laptop has been region locked because different region DVD's were played more than 5 times! Is it true that this is permanent and that NOTHING can be done to change it back to Region 2? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as i am truly stuck on this! Thanks people

I have an Asus laptop, about 2 and a half years old. It's is always plugged in so, even though i use the power cord, the battery is always fully charged. I booted up this afternoon and a few minutes later it froze completely so i had to do a hard shutdown. When i tried to boot it up again, the power light came on and the hard drive made its usual clicking sound it makes when its booting, but a couple seconds later everything shut off. A couple seconds after that the lights turned back on but the hard drive made no noise and the screen stayed black. I tried booting it a few more times and the same thing happens. Am i right to assume it's a hard drive problem since the power is fine?

hi im trying to format my (toshiba sp4600 LAPTOP) with the copy of windows xp service pack 2 that i put on it in the first place only because the usb ports wont accept my usb modem and other things however when i press F2 at the beginning of bootup and press c to boot from cd rom it then asks me for another command and i dont know what it is please help unless theres another way to format my laptop ---- the command i get is /boot> what comes next

I just got back from a free consultation and was told it would cost nme $980.00 just in attorneys fees plus a 299.00 filing fee.I cant come up with that much money! My case really shouldnt be complicated.Im about 18,000.00 in debt and the only thing they could possibly take from me is my car( a 96 ford explorer w/ 175000 miles valued at about 2,800) I dont own anything else like property ect. There is a great deal on a laptop at Fry's electronics with an 333mhz AMD Turion 64 processor and I'm wondering if it's a good computer or not. I usually only trust anything Intel Pentium but I have been in the market for a laptop for so long and am anxious to find one. With laptops being so expensive nowadays I want to get my money's worth and not pay over $1200 for one that I most likely won't use all the bells and whistles too. I have a an old HP laserjet 1100 printer, and a very new HP laptop, and unfortunately I don't have a 25 pin parallel socket on the laptop, so I therefore can't connect my printer.

I also bought a USB to parallel cable, thinking I could just connect it to a USB port, but the socket on the printer seems old and strange, and it won't connect to the typical parallel cable.

I'm in San Diego and Radio Shack couldn't help me as they only had the same USB/parallel cable which I already have.

How else can I connect a 25 pin parallel cable onto my new laptop, so I can print?
