Unfortunately, my laptop has been region locked because different region DVD's were played more than 5 times! Is it true that this is permanent and that NOTHING can be done to change it back to Region 2? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as i am truly stuck on this! Thanks people

nothing at all? what about taking my driver back to the store and asking for it to be rebooted or whatever considering they did not give me a clear urgent warning or prior information that my drive was RPC2 not 1

Yes, after 5 changes to the DVD region code the code will lock to the last-used code, and you must replace the hardware to make another change. This function is hardwired into the DVD players/devices, and nothing available at the consumer level can flip them back on.

This function is built into DVD players as required by international treaties, and once it's locked, that's it! The hardware burns a new checkbit (literally), and it's off.

There is software available that can shut off the region coding, but not once the hardware reaches its code limit..

Sorry =(

get a copy of DVD region free from somewhere - in fact there are several software packages out there that will free this up.

Once it's locked, it's locked.
