i have been using PC's for a long time. i have to use MACs for certain parts of my classes. they work, but i feel so ineffective using them that i could not bring myself to switch. all the commands that you are used to are different, like ctl+alt+del does not do anything. it is something like apple+esc+q or something to bring up a task manager. MACs rely more on drag and drop then commanding files to move. bottom line: you kn ow how to use a PC and how to use it well, you would be trying to switch between different O/S and i think it wouold make for a bery steep learing curve and some pretty good headaches. also the compatabilty with a MAC aned some programs is less than optimal. i.e. AutoCAD cannot run in a mac environment (at least the version available from my school) we have to use the "virtual pc" program in a mac to run autocad. thats where you emulate a windoews desktop on your mac. it works, but it is very slow and for my money, very unstable.

Unless you're really fed up with the PC side of computing, I'd say stick with it. I've only ever owned macs, so you know where I'm coming from, but it just seems like it would be a waste of your time and resources. You already have all the programs and knowledge on that platform. Macs are really easy to setup and use, but you might get frustrated by the fact that you'd have to buy a version of Office for the Mac, or any other software that doesn't come pre-installed on a new Mac Book. Or that the keyboard shortcuts are just slightly different. I use both at work because I have to, but would always use what I know when given the choice.

i grew up on a pc, im not that old, but i have been using a mac for the last 4 or 5 years at school, last year i made the switch, i still have a PC but its really my fiance's. It was brain numbingly easy to get it going while setting up her new PC was like puling teeth. In the year i had my MAC, i have had no problems with spyware or viruses, while i have had to install 3 different anti virus programs in the PC. The switch was easy for me, i just do not understand people who cant go back and forth. Its not rocket science.

Well, MAC and PC rival is never ending. It really depends on the stuffs you will be running for your computer then. Aside from it is stylish Mac is great for multimedia applications, less risks in viruses and of course run in OSx; while PC are great for all software. It is compatible in most of every program available. Its usage can also be maximize because of its easy upgrade system. So, just choose what suites your preference then. They both can be very great for you. :)

A computer of any kind is a major personal investment nowdays. Your entire life is on a small disk. Asking for opinions on this issue is bound to bring biased opinions from all sides; leaving you in the dark on what may actually work best for you. I would like to offer better advice, but My choice of a Mac and why may not be the best solution for you. I think some research will help you figure out what is going to be the best for your needs.

unless you do video editing or 3d graphics. then a mac is over kill. sure they are more secure but at the same time not many programs for it unlike the PC. just have to ask yourself what are you going to use it for. then go from there.
just remember wither you buy mac or windows based systems. bill gates still gets your money lol.

Funny how safari uses the konqueor (KDE web browser) browser engine and their IDE Xcode uses gcc, bison, and other libraries of the GNU project. I also notice that their GUI uses other GNU libraries. Oh wait, Apple doesn't develop their own software, they steal it. The code they add to make it proprietary is absolute crap. basically what I am getting here, is that Apple isn't a good computer. While their Libraries are good code, the only reason it is, is because it is stolen, everything they added to make their programs proprietary has caused their software to be some of the most unstable and unusable software out there.
Get a PC and install GNU/Linux on it. http://www.mandriva.com/en/download is a good choice of distros, but there are many out there. Apple makes horrid software as does Microsoft.

Macs are not hard to learn, OS X is much more intuitive than PCs and Windows........The good news is that you can have both in your notebook.......the new Mac with the duo core INTEL chips will run both OS X and Windows..........two for the price of one...........This will be my next computer.
