I just got a laptop and i am not sure if i should keep turning it off when i dont use it. the first thing i do when i wake up is come on it, and then i turn it off for the day, then come back on at night, and turn it off when i go to bed. Should i just keep it on, but have me logged off during the day? or turn it off? and sometimes when i close it it turns it off after like 30 mins.

I have an IBM Thinkpad 560 laptop but this does not have a USB port. I have a PS/2 (Male) to USB (Female) convertor. I have connected this USB (Female) socket to a Personal Video Recorder using its USB port. I want to run the PVR software (E-Linker from Humax) on my laptop so that it thinks its talking to a USB port but which actually goes through the mouse port and connects to the PVR USB in order to download some of my recorded material. Is this possible at all?

I am fixing a laptop for somebody. He was working normally and it shut down. I found out that the hard drive was broken, so now I have a new one installed in it. Now the only problem is that if I try to install windows XP its wont boot from the cd. All the settings in the bios are fine, and it is set to boot from the cd first. I know the cd works fine because i tried it on a different computer. I also tried using different bootable cd's (any bootable program), and none of the work. I just get an error saying that no bootable media was found.

The hard drive is installed fine, because the bios detects it. I am a pretty advanced computer user, and the funny thing is that I fix computers for a side business...but...this is the first time this is happening to me. HELP ME OUT!

again..i am 110% sure that all the settings are fine. The laptop is a Dell latitude c610 running the dell a07 bios. The new hard drive is a 80gb Hitachi drive.

Thanks in advance.

I have a ibook from like two years ago. Whenever I use iMovie and try to rasterize a clip it takes like ten minutes. Would upgrading the memory make the computer run faster and allow it to rasterize clips faster. How big a difference would it make? How about the hard drive?

And I'd like to know if it's possible to change the processor to the Intel Core 2 Duo T7600. without making any other change of the chipset or the mainboard.
Will I get any trouble?

All of my settings in the volume control are turned all of the way up and the + button on my laptop was held down until maximum volume, but any sounds that I hear are very quiet like the volume is turned way down, but it is all the way up. Where else can I go to determine why my volume is so quiet? Any one know what could cause this?

I am in the UK and In July this year I accidently damaged my Acer laptop, my insurance company replaced it for a new one. Since owning it, it has had a constant fault where it intermitently blue screens and re-boots. Up to this point it has been back to Acer for repair 3 times and I was assured the last time they had it that they would fix the problem. I got it back the friday before christmas , and guess what? it still had the same fault. I phoned them and they want me to send it to them yet again! I have given Acer 5 months to fix this problem, is this a reasonable time? This laptop cost £850 and I feel that it has probably depreciated a great deal in this time. I am threatening legal action, I have written to them giving them 14 days to replace the laptop as it is not fit for purpose. Am I doing the right thing?
