I have an IBM Thinkpad 560 laptop but this does not have a USB port. I have a PS/2 (Male) to USB (Female) convertor. I have connected this USB (Female) socket to a Personal Video Recorder using its USB port. I want to run the PVR software (E-Linker from Humax) on my laptop so that it thinks its talking to a USB port but which actually goes through the mouse port and connects to the PVR USB in order to download some of my recorded material. Is this possible at all?

No. I'm afraid it's not.

Irrelevant of what you plug into it the PS/2 port on your PC cannot even remotely handle the data transfer rate from a PVR.

I suggest you purchase a PCMCIA USB card (type II) for the Thinkpad. This will allow you to successfully transfer the data.

Here are some options. The combo USB/Firewire model would be a smart choice :

BEWARE : your PC only has a Pentium 133 Mhz CPU .... I do not believe you'll be able to do much with the video data once you tranfer it .

NONONONONO It doesnt work that way!!!!!!!!

PS/2 is an interface designed only for the system to communicate with a keyboard or a mouse. It cant handle anything else. I know about this converter, and this is only used to make a newer keyboard that uses USB interface to be plugged into an older computer that has only a PS/2 slot. Never use that connector to connect anything else.

The problem is that the PS/2 links into a keyboard controller. It's not a general serial bus controller such as a USB port. It's not a matter of particular software package being capable, but a matter of the hardware being capable.
