Laptops & Notebooks - December 2006

I want to clean the area under the keys of my laptop but I'm not sure how to do that. Is that possible to do without breaking the keys? If it's relevant I have a Dell Latitude X1. If you don't know but could point me in the right direction to find out that would be great too. Thanks!

I have a Dell laptop that worked great before with wireless connections... now when I enable the wireless connection on the computer it can not find any wireless networks even when the computer is right next to the router. Hardwired it works OK but it just does not see any wireless networks anymore. Please HELP me. I have rebooted the computer, unplugged the cable modem and the router but nothing has changed. I have even tried to "find" a wireless connection at a known "wireless" McDonalds and I still get "no network connections found" during the search where before it would list it as a possible connection source!

My dvd drive on my Packard Bell Easynote R1928 is broken and i need to replace it. It isnt under warranty and the drive is expensive. Anyone know if any other drives are compatible that could be cheaper? Thanks

I would prefer not to pay Dell whatever ridiculous amount they will no doubt charge me for a new one. Please drop me some info, pictures, steps, whatever you can. If it's as easy as removing the busted motherboard and putting in a new one, I'm fully capable. Also, be sure to indicate if I will lose the stuff on my hard drive (I-Tunes, pictures, etc). I'd rather not so please send the appropriate steps. Again, thanks!!!!

The laptop comes with a wireless networking card (dell wireless 1390b/g 54mbps). I do know anything in regards to wireless internet or whatever. Will I need to pay some monthly service to have wireless internet? I have ethernet dsl at home for my desktop. I should be able to access the internet around at school with no problem. How can I have internet 24/7 no matter where I am or what im doing. Any help, I feel like a dummy for asking this, but I am a bit confused. Any wireless internet basics will be helpful.

I can't figure out why there's no sound coming from my laptop speakers. Everything's set up correctly. The volume is up. It says all the devices are working properly. It worked yesterday, but last night, there was no sound. I tried the PC tests, and nothing is coming out. I've had the laptop for a few years now. It's a Gateway DS 400SP PLUS with XP.

Is there ANY way I can fix this, any suggestions? I'm so desperate, you don't even know. I'd like to be able to fix this without taking it in, if at all possible.

IM getting annoying from my Laptop speaker when removng my headphones from it after haring some tracks. I'm getting always this problem once i disconnect the headphones.

My sound properties in Contol panel is all raised high like (waves,Volume control,Line in,SW synth,Microphone) all set to high.

I dont konw what has gone wrong.

so like i was saying i turn it on it starts to load up gets to the screen that says Windows XP. And then all of a sudden it reboots and does the same thing loads then gets to the Windows XP screen then reboots...i am going crazy here. please help me. My laptop suddenly shut down when plugged in and charging, and since I have been unable to charge it. When I turn the laptop on the light that lets me know that it is charging just flashes on and off till I turn the laptop off (I only have enough battery left to check if it is working). I have had a few problems before with the adapter and it doesn'y seem to be a problem with that.

My laptop model is a hp pavilion ze4800, which I have had for around 2-3 years. I will be replacing it after Christmas but I need it for an essay (which needs to be handed in soon) so any help would be great. Thanks.

P.s. I'm using the university computers to write this question.

Here's the story. My laptop (Dell Inspiron 6000) got a little damaged earlier this year and had to have the motherboard replaced, as it wouldn't respond to AC power. Ever since I've had the motherboard replaced, my battery life has gotten worse, and now the "Battery Percentage Left" and the "Battery Time Left" are unequal, causing my battery to get low without a warning sign popping up. So I'll be working on something and my comp will go into hibernation because the battery is low, with no prior warning! Do I need to buy a new battery, or is there a way to correct the battery life vs. battery time thing? My laptop is only a year and a half old, I thought the battery would last longer before it would start doing this stuff.

My family own's their own business and I would like to purchase a laptop. The main use would be for keeping track of inventory. I do not need games or any other just for fun features.
