I have a Dell laptop that worked great before with wireless connections... now when I enable the wireless connection on the computer it can not find any wireless networks even when the computer is right next to the router. Hardwired it works OK but it just does not see any wireless networks anymore. Please HELP me. I have rebooted the computer, unplugged the cable modem and the router but nothing has changed. I have even tried to "find" a wireless connection at a known "wireless" McDonalds and I still get "no network connections found" during the search where before it would list it as a possible connection source!

Make sure your laptop's wireless adapter is turned on, it might have gotten turned off. Most Dell laptops have a button to do this: Fn + F2

I would first check to see if there is another wireless utility on your system. I know that the Dell laptops come with a Dell wireless utility along with XP's built in utility. They may have had a conflict and are both shut off. If you go into services and enable XP's wireless utility and then open the utility there is a box that you can check that sets windows to manage wireless connections.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
