Be careful. In the first instance you will probably have to pay import duty. The taxman always demands his pound of flesh, trust me I have learned through experience. You could find the Import duty will make the savings very small and in some cases more expensive than had you bought the same item at home.

Secondly, lets say you brought a Brand New Dell, from America, ( much cheaper than here in the UK) and you manage to get away without paying duty ( which is highly unlikely) what do you do if it goes wrong in the first few months? They have a really nice "sounding" international warranty. I have seen a lot of foriegn sellers offering this on Ebay. Sadly it doesnt mean that the warranty is Iternational. What Dell mean is that, shuld you be an international traveller with your laptop and it goes awry in an "authorised" country, they can give you authorisation to have the Laptop repaired in that country. HOWEVER, it DOESNT cover you if you live and work in the UK. Should you have a problem with the Laptop, Dell UK will not be able to help. You will need to send it back to the country you bought it from. Ergo MORE costs. I would imagine all international computer manufacturers would operate the same waranty.

Added to all that you wil have to consider voltage differences and would need a transformer to use it on our 240Volt system.

My advice, Buy from the home market, if you use your Credit card in the UK you have some more consumer protection but, at this moment in time, that protection is not aplicable to purchases from abroad, so if it doesnt turn up, youve just lost your money.

Hong Kong is pretty cheap if you go places like their Computer Centres in Mongkok, ShamShuipo and Wanchai - depends on your specification - good mid-range models come in around US$600-800.
Most come with US or international warranties - some just with local - be sure to ask and don't forget to ask for extras like more RAM etc.
