Viruses are almost exclusively for PC-based (i.e. Windows) applications. Mac has such a small share of the market that it's usually not worth it for a hacker.

That being said, there have been a few instances of trouble. Contact the Apple website for info.

If your using M$ Word and have macros enabled and your sending files to Windows users, maybe you do need one. You can get ClamXav, free, from the link. Otherwise, you don't need one.

you always need virus protection, no matter how good they say the computer already is, it can't be good enough yet to block out all viruses.

I have heard they don't get viruses
