My laptop suddenly shut down when plugged in and charging, and since I have been unable to charge it. When I turn the laptop on the light that lets me know that it is charging just flashes on and off till I turn the laptop off (I only have enough battery left to check if it is working). I have had a few problems before with the adapter and it doesn'y seem to be a problem with that.

My laptop model is a hp pavilion ze4800, which I have had for around 2-3 years. I will be replacing it after Christmas but I need it for an essay (which needs to be handed in soon) so any help would be great. Thanks.

P.s. I'm using the university computers to write this question.

So even though it is plugged in and tells you it's charging, it shuts off?

When the laptop charging light is flashing, it should mean that there is no (or low, if the computer is actually running.) battery life. It might be different (I have a Compaq Presario. Same company, though some things might be different.)

When your adapter is plugged in, does the charge symbol light up? If it is not, then your laptop isn't charging.

If you can't get it to charge, then it could be a problem with you adapter. I would talk with customer support before buying another adapter. If you have a friend that has a similar model, you might ask and see if you can borrow theirs to test it.

Just make sure that it is actually charging. The only time that would happen is if the charge light is on, and stays on even when the system is off.

You need a new battery! Get on HP Shopping site and have them send you a new one! Or pull out the old battery and go to Best buy to get an exact replacement.
