The laptop comes with a wireless networking card (dell wireless 1390b/g 54mbps). I do know anything in regards to wireless internet or whatever. Will I need to pay some monthly service to have wireless internet? I have ethernet dsl at home for my desktop. I should be able to access the internet around at school with no problem. How can I have internet 24/7 no matter where I am or what im doing. Any help, I feel like a dummy for asking this, but I am a bit confused. Any wireless internet basics will be helpful.

some facts about wireless internet:
- no, you haven't to pay any monthly service, you have only to pay for your dsl service at home.
- wireless internet is available at all locations with a wireless service (so called hot spots). this is at airports, hotels, cafes (Starbucks) or maybe at school, so it DOES depend where you are. the range of a hot spot is maximum 1000 feet outdoors and about 150 feet indoors.
- to get wireless at home, you just need a wireless router (no additional costs). with this router you're able to connect the desktop and your laptop to the internet at the same time.
instead you connect the desktop to the dsl modem, you connect it to the router (to one of the four ports). the WAN port of the router will be connected with the modem. the laptop needs no cable, because it is then connected wireless (via the antennas of the router - sorry for this laymans term). the laptop can then connect to the internet within the house wherever you are (up to 150 feet away from the router).

First you get cable or DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) Internet service. The prices for Internet service ranges from $25 a month for DSL (slower, but quicker than dial up), to $40 plus for high speed cable service. The companies usually will provide you with a modem, usually for free with your year contract. Now you will have to get a "wireless router" it has an antennae. If you contact the Internet Service Provider they might help you set up the whole thing while they are at your house. Once that is done, you can roam around your house with your laptop while on the Internet, wirelessly. About having Internet access anywhere, like sitting at a bus stop, well someone else more knowledgeable than I can answer that, but I know it isn't cheap.

Your DSL requires you be plugged in at home, or on campus at school, or renting a connection at Starbucks. the only way to get 24/7 access is to get something like Verizon or TMobile's Hot Spot Service for a monthly fee. As long as you have cellphone access, you will also have internet access.
