I can't figure out why there's no sound coming from my laptop speakers. Everything's set up correctly. The volume is up. It says all the devices are working properly. It worked yesterday, but last night, there was no sound. I tried the PC tests, and nothing is coming out. I've had the laptop for a few years now. It's a Gateway DS 400SP PLUS with XP.

Is there ANY way I can fix this, any suggestions? I'm so desperate, you don't even know. I'd like to be able to fix this without taking it in, if at all possible.

Thanks.

Sometimes the sound system just dies under Windows. Probably some mal-adjusted software somewhere grabbed the sound device and did not release it. Hate to ask the obvious, but have you tried rebooting? Also, check the volume control (double click on speaker icon in the system tray) and see if anything muted the main volume or dropped the wav device volume.

Go to Start - Control Panel and select Sounds. Tab over to Audio and click the drop down menu. Assign the audio output to your default (sound Card). If you are losing your settings you are infected with something. That is common.

right click on MY COMPUTER, and go to Device manager and see if there is a yellow mark on your speakers, you might need to install the drivers for the laptop, go to your laptops manufacturing and download the drivers for your laptop, make sure you choose the correct OS
