The first chip is an amd opteron dual core 2.0ghz processor 1000mhz fsb and the second chip is an Intel xeon 3.6ghz 800fsb if that helps. Does it depend on what my application is for or one or the other is just simply faster and better. Thanks.

The speakers are on the monitor. I KNOW they used to work.

Whenever I press the caps lock key, something squeals at me (I don't know from where), but music/videos won't have sound. It's not on mute, either on the computer or the monitor, and i've checked the volume settings of which I know. What's up?

And this monitor is...HP vs15.

I reloaded Xp but now it comes to a menu where I need to choose between the installations. Only the new one is valid but it's annoying that I have to choose now. Before it would just boot normally. Any way I can fix this?

Hi everyone,

I've had my PC since 2003 and just yesterday when i started it up, it came up with a voice message saying "system failed cpu test". It just keeps repeating this message over and over again. Also, i do not get any video on my monitor, i don't think it could be a monitor problem as i replaced my CRT with an LCD 2 months back.

I've also noticed that when i boot up and let the computer 'warm up' for say 5 minutes then restart it quickly - it works. What could be the problem here? I've always been shutting down before bed and starting up in the morning everyday, and its been working for years, this problem just came out of the blue!

btw, my specs are:
P4 2.53Ghz
ASUS P4S8X Mobo
ASUS 128MB GeForce 4 Ti 4600 Ultra Deluxe
Kingmax 2x512mb DDR PC2700 Ram
80GB Seagate HDD

these are the main things...any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

I have a HP pavilion with windows 98. One day it just wouldn't turn on. When I pressed the power button, nothing happened: no lights or sounds or anything. About a week later I tried to turn it on again and the lights turned on, and I heard the computer running, but when I turned on the monitor, it said:
"Please check video cable connection." I made sure all the cables and wires were secure and in the right spot, but still nothing. I flipped the kill switch on the back of the CPU, but still nothing. I tried different outlets: nothing. I just need to turn on the computer so I can retrieve some files. The only way I know of to retrieve the files is to remove the hard drive and hook it up to my other computer, but I don't know how, and I don't want to spend money to get a professional to do it, so how can I get my computer to turn on right?

My computer freezes a lot, and i know its not a software problem, i reformatted and installed OS.... i notice at start up, the bios tells the temp, and after crashing, its often at high temps like 177 F... what should I do to stop it from over heating? It tends to crash more when its doing more complex things, like running a game or compressing video...

Hey, I am going for a major upgrade. First of all here are my computers specifications:

- Intel Pentium 4, 3.2gHZ
- 250gb IDE Hard drive
- 1.5gb DDR Ram
- 128mb ATI Radion Graphics Card
(Compaq Presario: SR1278AN
Chipset: Intel 915P)

I am getting into video editing and need a more powerful computer. I am going to have to save a bit of $$. I am getting a new 22" lcd monitor for sure.

First of all I need a Core 2 Duo, I know this will help in video editing and the rendering time. But my motherboard doesn't take core 2 duo so i need to get a new one. I want DDR2 RAM too so i will need a cheap but not slow motherboard which takes ddr2 as well. Also can DDR ram go in DDR2 ram slots?

I have an IDE hdd and want to get a SATA 500gb but can i transfer ALL the files from my IDE to my new one including windows xp itself, i ave True Image. My computer can connect the IDE and the SATA hard drives.

I need a better graphics card too, can you please recommend where/what to get? And i live in aus

I bought second-hand PC when I was not knowing about the motherboard & all such things. Now I know everything. But I didn't got the motherboard original cd. So I need its drivers to be downloaded from the net. I have tried so much but they are not available on the net also. If anyone knows about it. Please inform me. Other details of the PC are:

CPU: Intel Celeron 2.00GHz
RAM: 128MB
VGA: Not onboard
Chipset: SiS
MB: Micro-star 6585
ROM: American Trends v.1.00
'Fujitsu Siemens' appears first when I start my PC.

is there a command that will restore my computer to its state like a week ago? i deleted my sound drivers and codecs accidentally when i did disk clean up, however the computer thinks there still there and since theres a, sound driver in my device manager my comp thinks evrything is all right. and because of that i cant un istall it or reinstall it, when i right click them all it shows is peoperties, scan for updates and update since it is the current version i cant do anything, and i dont think even if they came out with a new driver in windows update it would make a difference without the codecs. so far the only helpfull answer that i would have done was to format my computer, but i think i need the cds for xp which i dont have cuz my computer came with xp, please if there is a command i can do to just put an end to this id greatly appreciate it.
