I did a scan of my computer at pcpitstop.com. After the scan was completed it my memory speed was signifinataly low. the rating was 1765/MIPS (or millions of intagers per second). when it should be 7900/MIPS. I have 1.5 GB of RAMin a HP Pavilion a1253w. Is there anything I can do to increase the speed of my RAM?

Change the ram timings, in BIOS Setup Utility,(if it'll let you!) It also depends on the Latency of the ram you're usin',(the lower the number, the faster) Changing ram timings is a slow process, or should be. You write down the original timings, in case you have to go back, then change the values one increment, at a time, check for stability, change another ram timing, check stability. How about checking Hardwaresecrets.com,(click on Memory heading at top), Extremetech.com, and ExtremeOverclockers.com, plus Sysopt.com,(overclocking guide), for more info.

MIPS (million integer operations per second) is more indicative of processor speed rather than memory speed. Your low MIPS could be more attributed to your processor. Turn off your startups in msconfig to get better benchmark results. One of the processes could be disturbing your scan.

If you create more free space the RAM can work a bit faster. Try
Increasing your Virtual Memory specs

it depends on what you are running at the time. your virtual memory goes down while you run things, and even if you shut things down, it will still run lower due to the programs in the back.
