Yes after format all gone. There are software that can retrieve files from even formated hard drives, but..

A)There aren't free and

B)You must install them in a drive different from the drive that you recently formated. and

C) You must stop use your laptoptill you can retrieve your DATA . Or elsewindows will overwrite the lost DATA.

So if you have a second hard drive so you can install recovery programs, you didn't used the formated drive alot, then there is a chance to get your DATA back.

Now if you remember the programs, you can just do a Google search and download them from their sites.

For example programs like adobe reader and realplayer are free. just type real player in google and you will find it.

Best of Luck

you can get freeware to do it, but you shouldnt have installed 98 first if you were worried about files, you should have used a live CD. thats when you run linux or a different GOOD operating system that is not made by microsoft on a CD so you can retrieve files when your windows indefinitely screws you over. since you already reformatted, you have written over certain things, and others will be retrievable, justget freeware

Programs might as well be thought of as gone but there is software out there that can help you find some files possibly. Google "Ontrack Easy Recovery". That's a simple one to use.
