Hey all,

Built my first computer about a month ago and as a follow up i wanna purchase some more memory.

I'm on a tight budget (currently running 1GB DDR2 PC2-4200) and I simply want to know if I should buy another 2GB of PC2-4200 RAM and have 3GB of RAM or buy 2GB of PC2-6400 RAM and just have 2GB.

Which would best help my system run smoother.

Earlier today when I started my computer it said that it didnt have something in it, it said could be error or you need to reinstall, I didnt know what to do so I did system recovery, after the recovery was gone all the icons in my desktop was gone and my computer started as a brand new computer. I wanted to do system restore but it said I needed a restore point which I didnt have, is there any other way I can restore my stuff back?

I use Itunes, have a lot of mp3 files, I download movies & TV shows and upload pictures. I want something that can handle media functions quickly. Should I get the upgraded processor or the extra memory?

Also I will need to transfer my files from my old computer (windows XP) to the new one (Vista), so should I buy the transfer package or is there another way?

Is paying $150 for the Microsoft Office suite worth it or should I just use the preloaded Microsoft Works? I would use Word and maybe Outlook but I don't need exel or powerpoint. Can I get it cheaper elsewhere?

Sorry for the length of this question but I am really not computer savvy (obviously).

Thanks!

Would this video card be enough for video streaming ?

Each day I have to re-adjust my computers date because it seems to advance a couple of days each time I turn on my computer however,it does not alter the time at all.
I know that sometimes a time and date will change backwards if your battery needs replacing but, what makes it advance a couple of days.
Any help will be gratefully apreciated, thank you.

would it be bad to get a power supply that can provide more power then the computer needs in some cases? meaning if sometimes you were on 480 watts and then later you would run on 1000 watts.

I always leave it on standby and don't know if its bad.

I was just wondering if I could run 2 OS's on one computer as long as I have two hard drives.I am new to building computers and am about to build one as soon as my parts arrive.I only ordered Windows XP because Windows Vista isn't compatable with alot of games that I like, and I don't feel like spending $200 on a OS that won't work with some of the games that I like (plus I didn't have enough money on me at the time). So in a while, probably sometime in April of 08, I plan on getting another HDD and buying Vista as long as it is possible to have 2 OS's on the same system.

I want to upgrade computer, but I want to know which part upgrade what better. I know hard drive upgrade loading time and start up times faster. Graphic card upgrades only games and some graphic programs. CPU and Memmory upgrades overall perfomence. I know by putting what hardware how much it will get better by numbers. like by upgrading to this CPU, my super PI time will get this much faster but In real use would I be able to feel the difference? I overclocked my E6600 C2D from 2400mhz to 3600mhz but I'm not sure if I really felt much difference other than confirmation of benchmarks. Only hardware that I really felt difference was video card. Thats why I want to know what exactly each hardware does to change my computing experience. For example lets say I upgraded the memory to 8gb. Would I really feel diffence from 2gb unless I run like AutoCAD making drawing with billions of lines?

Can I burn something else on a DVD-R that has already been used? I'm out of blank disk and I really want to burn something. But when I put it in it says please insert blank disk. Doesn't the R in DVD-R mean I can keep burning over the same disk? If not is there a way to erase whats on a disk and burn my new stuff?

I heard that having quicktime and windows media installed on the same computer will cause problems to your computer, that they both fight for control of your computer. I had to remove quicktime from my computer so windows media will work properly. Why does this occur? and how can I fix this so I can reinstall quicktime on my computer
which is a hp 64 processor with 1.0GB and windows xp and have it run with windows media.
