My Power Mac G5 has been running flawlessly 24/7/365 for almost four years now. I do reboot it every week or so though.

You can actually run into some problems due to frequently shutting off your computer. For any component that generates heat, as soon as you shut off the fans stop (unless for some reason it keeps running without the device actually being used, i know some new power supplies have this feature), and now you have a problem. .. where is all that heat stored up in the heatsink going to go? Well it sortof "cooks" there until the heat dissipates, and that certainly is no good. With hard drives, you will find that many are rated to a certain number of starts and stops. . . when the computer is shut off, the head has to come to rest on the platter surface (normally it is cushioned by air, a VERY small space between the platters and head), and every time it has to come to rest on the surface of the platter, it causes wear. . . not that most will ever encounter the problem, but just something else to know. Occasionally rebooting your computer is fine, but in the end if you can pay the electricity bill, your computer wont need naps/rest. . . it will be fine.

it'll be fine even if you leave it on for 24/7/365. lol my dad always says that its bad, that things will be worn out or something but I just ignore him lol. I always leave it on standby when I'm done using it and every night when I go to bed.

lol here's a post where somebody is wondering if turning the comp. off 6 times a day is harmful or not. One of the first replies is that leaving the computer on would've been better

No, it won't harm something hardware clever, even in spite of the incontrovertible fact that i could be very stunned if living house windows XP stayed up that long without reboot. actual, fan would be working continuously, however the bearings used in at present's fan are appropriate, it is going to in all probability final merely fantastic. dirt accumulation heavily isn't a concern except your house is very dusty. I unquestionably have mine on 24x7 with periodic reboots for crash restoration and application installations/removals. over the final 15 years with a number of computers, failures I had have been under no circumstances utilization appropriate. most of the server type machines stay to tell the story 24*7*365 and followers used on those machines are not made any distinctive from living house computers in maximum circumstances.

I don't think it's bad, but It certainly wouldn't hurt to turn it off for a couple of hours a few times a week and give it some time to "Cool its Heels" so to speak. Everyone and everything needs a little shuteye every now and then.

I know people who never turn there's off and it should be fine, if it is a wireless system make sure you have good security.
Also computers use a lot of electricity so think of that as well.

Yes, because the longer you keep your computer on without rseting the faster it will break down. I advise you to turn it off when you don't use it for a long period of time.

i have heard that from my parents and it seems that nothing bad can happen but over long periods of time, the brain of the computer and the parts start to wear down. But if you want to keep it on, then go to properties, by right clicking, then go to screen saver and click on power on the energy star icon and make your power low so its good for the computer and you can save money.

thanks for listening.

I agree with one of the persons above me -- It's not bad at all, just make sure you reboot it everyone once in a while. But your computer should update and restart itself occasionally anyway.

My son took a lot of computer programming and repair courses. He leaves his computer on constantly--even when they are out-of-town. He says that no harm can come from that.
