I heard that having quicktime and windows media installed on the same computer will cause problems to your computer, that they both fight for control of your computer. I had to remove quicktime from my computer so windows media will work properly. Why does this occur? and how can I fix this so I can reinstall quicktime on my computer
which is a hp 64 processor with 1.0GB and windows xp and have it run with windows media.

I have windows xp sp2 and media player 10 and quicktime 7.2. I just double click the file to play and the OS decides which player to use.
Have not had any problems.

Reinstall the Quicktime then go to 'Set Programs Access and Defaults'. Look at the Start menu; if not there, go to the Control Panel and under Add & Remove Programs - it will be listed on the left side.
Choose the Custom and pick your choice of programs to run.
