Check System -> Administration -> System Log. Check the other logs in /var/logs. Would be a lot easier if "acting up" was defined, of course :)
I'm running 7.10 right now with full custom effects, and its funky, lightning fast, and rather well put together overall :)

thats not very specific, you could always make sure you have a copy of the 7.10 desktop CD ISO and burn it and then back up anything you want to keep, on cd or fileservers or flashdrives... and then just reinstall it fresh... I'd tell you a more specific answer BUT you're not being tooo specific there, try getting an app from the add / remove programs list that tells you about your system, it might say that something's wrong... but even then, I'm running 7.10 on a G4 iMac, because I can't reach a PC that anyone will let me install it on, so I settled for an iMac that was just laying around, and set up a wireless router with DD-WRT to make it work as a wireless bridge for this computer that has no wireless and I'm not running 30+ feet of ethernet cable to my room just to get networking and internet.. lol

More and more people are getting Ubuntu. Nice thing to see. Sadly, I don't have a spare computer to install Ubuntu on for myself, so I can't help you. All I do is install it for my friends.
