I reloaded Xp but now it comes to a menu where I need to choose between the installations. Only the new one is valid but it's annoying that I have to choose now. Before it would just boot normally. Any way I can fix this?

Same thing happened to me on a Dell system. It's due to an entry in the boot.ini file. If you search for boot.ini and open it with notepad you can edit the file. just make sure you don't delete the wrong entry or your computer won't boot. When you save the file, just click save and not save as. I didn't mess with mine since I didn't want to chance screwing it up.

the entries will look something like:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Good Windows XP" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Bad Windows XP" /fastdetect
