The speakers are on the monitor. I KNOW they used to work.
Whenever I press the caps lock key, something squeals at me (I don't know from where), but music/videos won't have sound. It's not on mute, either on the computer or the monitor, and i've checked the volume settings of which I know. What's up?
And this monitor is...HP vs15.

It's been an ongoing thing, and there aren't any other plugs that I can see
Oh, and even if the speakers themselves are busted, shouldn't the headphones bit still work? 'Cause that doesn't either.

It is probably something with your not getting power to the speakers. Is there another power plug on the back of the monitor? Maybe the monitor just can't get power from the computer your using.

This has happend to me before MANY times. It was either the wire was connected wrong or it was on mute. If not shut the whole computer sown and start it again and go on system recovery. There is a system recovery on Windows xp, but idk if it does on yours.

Go to Control
click on
"System"
"Hardware:
"Device Manager"
scroll down menu and put check mark
back into the "Sound" box.

well just try restarting the computer maybe the speakers might have got unplugged

I'm guessing you don't have the drivers for your sound card any more or your sound card is stuffed.
