My motherboard and powersupply recently fried on my computer and since I had an agp motherboard all my peices are basically useless. the only useful things I have are a hard drive, disc drives, and memory. I was thinkin of rebuildin another one or buyin one that can be upgraded but dont know where to look.

I am trying to find out how much my dell optiplex pc uses in terms of energy at the office.
It has a 17" CRT, and 2Ghz intel P4. lets say it runs ( ie srfing email, and reading, nothing processor intensive) for 8 hrs per day and on standby for the other 16, can anyone give an idea of the engery cost?
I used this site and got an answer of $800 per year, which seems kinda much?

I have a quad core CPU and... WHAT THE HE LL is the point of getting an awsome CPU when u have to buy a PPU that costs the same amount and ur CPU stays on the same load?

So im asking, is there a way to emulate the presence of a physix card but offload the calculations onto the CPU? (ive got UT3 demo (it comes with physiX) and it runs at 100fps and cant turn physics on properly, i wouldnt mind the fps hit, anything above 40fps is good)

Is there a Physix card emulator out?

Whenever I see those Mac vs PC ads it makes me want to hate apple and never buy one of their products. They go on and on about how Macs are so much fun but PCs are boring.

I can think of many programs that won't run on a mac and I can do everything and more on my PC than a mac.

When they talk about having fun why don't they mention that there is basically no game support or good videocard support for apple computers?

Does this tick anyone else off?

I currently have an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (socket 939) and am looking to upgrade to an AMD Athlon 64 X2 of 4000+ or more. As long as I keep the same socket size (939), will it work? Can I use my existing fan? Is there any software/firmware that I need to make my BIOS work with it?

(ABIT AX8 939 VIA K8T890 ATX AMD Motherboard)

Thanks!

...to my new PC?!? Can I do it myself or should I get a pro to do it(like my local CompUSA which wants to charge me $100 to do it!!!) If I can I do it myself it,I will but...I don't know about opening the tower and which one it would be!! If I could I find an easy way to just back up all my data(music, movies, pictures, various installers for programs I use-like Firefox,uTorrent and a few others I won't mention!) I'd do it. i guess I'm just a little bit lazy and slightly resistant to change plus I'm not really knowledgeable about, literally, the inner workings of a computer. I'm worried about not being able to personalize my new PC as well as I've done with my old PC. Plus I don't want to lose all the music, pictures, etc. and I think it would take WAY,WAY too many CDs/DVDs to back up 90GBs of data. So,how do I get all my personal stuff(not just pics/music)but also all my bookmarks, user settings etc. to work on my new PC?PLEASE try to speak English,NOT computerese. Think Computers For Dummies!

Hi! Can someone please answer these 4 questions for me? I don't want to "impulse buy"! Thanks.

With 1GB of memory, a dual-core AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ processor, and a 250GB hard drive, the HP Pavilion Slimline S3020n PC is fully loaded yet the tower itself is merely one-third the size of a traditional tower PC.

Specs--

AMD Athlon 64X2 3800+ 2.0GHz, socket AM2, GeForce 6150 LE chipset, 1MB L2 cache
1GB DDR2 PC2-4200 SDRAM, 2GB max in 2 slots
250GB SATA HD, 16X DVD(+/-)R/RW RAM (+/-)R DL LightScribe drive
Nvidia GeForce 6150LE graphics with up to 319MB of shared video memory; 7.1 channel audio

1- Will the 1/3rd size of the tower make difficult to find upgrades?

2- Is the "shared video memory" bad for gaming? Easy to add a new vid card?

3- Does "dual core" mean that it actually is a 4.0Ghz processor?

4- Can I stick a 512M DDR RAM stick into the 2nd port? Is it compatible with SDRAM? Is it any good?
