Hi! Can someone please answer these 4 questions for me? I don't want to "impulse buy"! Thanks.

With 1GB of memory, a dual-core AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ processor, and a 250GB hard drive, the HP Pavilion Slimline S3020n PC is fully loaded yet the tower itself is merely one-third the size of a traditional tower PC.

Specs--

AMD Athlon 64X2 3800+ 2.0GHz, socket AM2, GeForce 6150 LE chipset, 1MB L2 cache
1GB DDR2 PC2-4200 SDRAM, 2GB max in 2 slots
250GB SATA HD, 16X DVD(+/-)R/RW RAM (+/-)R DL LightScribe drive
Nvidia GeForce 6150LE graphics with up to 319MB of shared video memory; 7.1 channel audio

1- Will the 1/3rd size of the tower make difficult to find upgrades?

2- Is the "shared video memory" bad for gaming? Easy to add a new vid card?

3- Does "dual core" mean that it actually is a 4.0Ghz processor?

4- Can I stick a 512M DDR RAM stick into the 2nd port? Is it compatible with SDRAM? Is it any good?

1) Sort of. Slimeline PC's have very few slots for upgrades.

2) Yes, it's not good. It has Nvidia 6150. As the latest is 8800, you can see that you're at least 2 gen behind.

3) No, dual core means you have 2 CPUs running at 3800+ in the space of 1 CPU, not that you have software that'll use them all...

4) No, this PC uses DDR2 memory, NOT DDR SDRAM. Says so right there in the memory specs "DDR2 PC2-4200"

1. Yes, odd sized cases can create problems for upgrading. Especially with video cards.

2. Shared video memory is always bad. These days manufactures are shorting you on memory all the time. Honestly 2GB of unshared video memory should be the norm for a computer running Vista.

3. No, a dual core does not mean the double the advertised frequances. It means you have two processors running at 2Ghz

4. No, you'd need DDR2 memory, but you'd want to go with 1GB of if you're going to add memory. Hopefully they didn't use 2 512MB sticks to give you the 1GB that's in there.

Over all that's not a bad system. Don't expect to play the newest games though, even if you do upgrade the video card.
