I have an eMachines AMD Sempron 3100+, 1.8 GHZ 1600 MHZ system that I'm trying to upgrade the CPU on. How fast of speeds can I get up to? Would a Intel Celeron 2.9 GHZ processor be to fast for what I have? Need some help here please!

Well, first off, you have to understand, a AMD chip and a Intel Chip are not compatable with each others connector. You would have to change out the MotherBoard to use a intel chip.

Secondly, E machines (and most any prebuilt computer) are very integrated, and sometimes lock the BIOS (the first screen showing up when you turn your system on) onto what the cpu is installed as.

Those two points being made, I haven't taken a deep look at the systems E machines has sold recently, but they still look like they don't have a standard case layout. meaning you would need a new case for that new motherboard you now need.

your best bet would be a ram upgrade, as you would see the best performance difference from that anyways. (running vista and went from 512mb to 1.5GB, and it's running like a new car) and maybe a video card upgrade, depending on how integrated the machine is. otherwise, I would recommend looking into a "Upgrade Kit" that would include a case, motherboard, CPU and (in some cases) RAM.

You need a AMD chip, depend on sockets, either 939 or AM2.
