i want to defragment my computer since to make it run more effeciently but when i try to do so, an error occurrs saying that defragmentation has been abborted due to inconsistencies that were detected in the file system. please run CHKDSK or SCANDISK on (C:) to repair these inconsistencies and then run defrag again. okay so i ran CHKDSK and the process completed. i tried running SCANDISK but it said that the file could not be found. i tried defragmenting it again but the same error still occurred. what should i do?

Gateway is no help, the only thing they are equipped to do is tell you if they have processors that are compatible to sell you, which they don't even have

Gateway Computer : Intel (Yorktown) Pentium 4 - 2.53GHz (533MHz) R2 [Part #2519075]
Uni-processor Intel® P4P Northwood in FC-PGA2 package, 133-MHz, 533MT/s FSB
Chipset: Intel i845PE and ICH4 chipset

The Motherboard has a 478-pin zero insertion force (ZIF) socket that supports a single Intel® Pentium® 4 processor or a single Intel Celeron® processor based on the Pentium 4 architecture. The standard host bus speed of the motherboard is 100 megahertz (MHz). However, the processor uses a dual-clock, un-pipelined processing method that achieves system bus speeds up to 533 MHz.

I WAS TOLD YOU START OUT BY LOOKING FOR PROCESSORS THAT USE 478 PINS AS THE FIRST STEP... (I THINK THE NEXT STEP IS LOOKING FOR PROCESSORS THAT DO 533MHZ FSB?) WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO CHECK BEFORE I BUY A PROCESSOR TO MAKE SURE THAT IT WILL BE COMPATIBLE ?

Okay... basic information about my computer:
- 768 MB of RAM
- Intel Pentium 4 processor
- 2.80 GHz
- doesn't have a ridiculous amount of stuff on it

/Everything/ runs slowly... even when I only have one or two programs open, and nothing running in the background, everything runs slowly. I do the disk cleanup, the disk defragment... all that stuff, and the computer is still ridiculously slow. It's been like this for a bit, and I cannot figure out the issue. Any advice?

Is this processor good enough to play games like Oblivion and F.E.A.R. with more than 30 FPS. I've been trying to look for a cpu i could upgrade to, and this is all i really found that i could afford. It's just short of 100 bucks, and it's a P4 with 3.2 ghz and HT. I think it's processor number 640. My RAM is at 533 mhz only though, and this cpu is at 800 mhz, should i still upgrade to it?

Okay I have a Compaq Presario SR1303WM-B I brought it in 2004. I love to play the Sims2 games so recently I added 1 gig of ram, this has really helped my game loads in a few seconds, but the video card is not up to it, should I buy a new video card(if so what kind) and power supply or should I just get a new computer? I have PCI and Agp slots, someone told me Compaq can't be upgrader I really don't know.

I'm thinking of building my own desktop PC, as buying bits is cheaper heres what I got so far:
Intel Celeron D352 CPU 3.2 GHz
Maxtor 160 GB HDD
Samsung 1GB RAM
NEC 18x DVD/RW
Asrock motherboard

This is my first time and im just trying to find compatible things which so far all the above are but I was wondering because the Motherboard comes with a Intel 865G graphics chipset, could I replace it with a Nvidia GeForce 7300 GT 512MB?
Also its a Micro ATX and I don't have a clue what case I would get.
I want to buy all from microdirect.co.uk to make it easy and would like you help. Also what kinda memory is the in-built graphics card?

Okay i have a Dell Dimension E521 which runs Windows Vista. Its pretty much new, we've had it for 2 months. After a while of being on the computer it stops letting me right click on things like so i cant save images, or copy, or paste. It wont even let me right click on the desktop screen. I also have it to where the tabs are at the top and when i open a new tab by right clicking it wont load, itll just say connecting, but still nothing happens. I have to restart my computer each time this happens and it interrupts whatever im doing on the computer. I dont know if its the internet (i have Charter Cable) because it did this on my last computer too (windows XP;dialup) I also know its NOT the mouse, ive went through a couple already. I was thinking that it could be a virus, but if it is its not detected by my Antivirus Software (Norton 360) Can somebody explain to me why this happens and what I can do about it?
