Usually it is the hard drive, gasping for breath because it is about to die on you. BACK UP! BACK UP! BACK UP your important files before disaster strikes.

It's old and clockwork?
Give us a few more clues - although the only thing I know of that is a problem that could tick is a HDD on it's way out. Fans will tick if they are gunged with dust deposits so much that it is catching on the fan housing or unbalancing the fan.
After that - without a bit more info - I doubt anyone will have a clue!

sounds like your complicatedpersistent. The ticking sound may be the arm no longer being waiting to go interior the complicatedpersistent. i've got considered 2 explanation why this could ensue, frequently its a failing complicatedpersistent. Backup your records now. yet I as quickly as have considered it from a vulnerable (perhaps failing) capacity grant and doubtless that's what's happening to you.

its quite confusing.. you must determine 1st which one is causing the noise...
if this is the 1st time you noticed it.. try to open your computer and check all cables, it might be a loose connection only.. try to connect all cables firmly/correctly..
then turn on your pc.. try to observe which part is causing it..
possible parts causing ticking sound are:
harddrive
cdrom
videocard-sometimes if they are not placed correctly
soundcard-sometimes if they are not placed correctly
fan
powersupply
cables
nic
so it really depends.. if you figure out which one, try to unplug or remove it then place it back in the computer..
hope this helps:)

if you are not noticing any other problems, it's probabably nothing.
I'm guessing it's the DVD or CD drives, in which case it's no big deal.. if it's the hard drive though, you're going to have problems soon... open up both your cd drives and see if the noise goes away... try to hear in more detail where the noise is coming from, then edit your question.
