I am planning to reformat my PC and I don't really know how to make a backup. I'm quite a dummy when it comes to this because it is my first time to do it. What are the ways to make a backup for my PC before reformatting? Please give me options and an easy-to-understand idiot guide about this. Thanks alot!

I had to toss my old emachines PC, because the motherboard just blew the hell up. Now, the computer doesn't even turn on. I took the Hard Drive out and now need to transfer all of my data onto my new HP Pavillion.

Ok, heres as simple as I can put it.

I have a 2 year old computer with a cheap motherboard in it. I have better motherboard from another computer that should still work. Last time I checked it did. But, I don't have the motherboard CD. If I take out the motherboard, with the processor, and leave everything else the way it is, just put a better motherboard in, would I have to redo windows on the hard drive? Or would it register it as a new motherboard? Or, what? Ive never installed a motherboard before, so I don't know exactly what will happen. So, is it safe, and should I do it?

All three sticks are DDR PC3200 and the same brand (Kingston), I am just curious if there is a noticeable difference between having two 512MB or one 1 GB stick. I can get the two 512MB sticks for a little cheaper but I wanted to be sure if the performance is the same as having one 1 GB stick. Thanks!

I checked today to see how much memory is being used on my computer. Why is A LOT more memory being used in my D drive than my C Drive? And is this normal?

My mom uses it for Freecell, my dad occaisionally uses it to go on the internet and my sister uses it to do numerous things online. My sister is also an avid photographer. Our old computer is prone to viruses and my parents would rather not have to deal with that. What would be a good buy that is not prone to viruses and is user friendly? My parents are definitely not computer literate.

A friend bought a used computer with Windows '98. Then he bought the XP home edition and installed it. Now he has a lot of money installed into a very old (and slow-moving) computer. It still has plenty of memory, so it's not a total waste. What can I do to help him speed it up, short of buying a new computer?

I have a feeling that maybe my hidden recovery partition may have been altered. I was told that HP recovery discs are unique to each computer so if mine has been altered, there's not much I can do. I don't know if I believe that but... I'd like to try to find a version on disc so that I can format my computer knowing it wasn't altered. HP Pavilion 754n is what I have.

it is a dell dimension computer. it was originally a millenium 2000 computer. but the owner before me put windows xp into it. so the original product key code. doesn't work. the technicians keep saying something about an 8 digit code that begins with a x but it is nowhere to be found on my computer. so they can't give me a product key without it. what do i do. will my computer still work if it counts down to 0 days and closes. what's the worst that could happen....is there any way to get around it......thanks for any help anyone can give me.........

I have aperfectly normal working pc,i wanted to add more memory to it,and stupudily i added sd ram to the ddr ram thatn was already in there. So when starting up the pc,the pc only recognised the sd ram,and not the ddr ram,i took out the sd ram and put the ddr ram back in,did not work, put back the sd ram it works.Went on the net to get help, someone gave me these steps.Take out sd ram after switching off the pc.Switch the pc on,and then back off, then put in the ddr ram, switch back on,does not work, switch off put back sd ram,oh my god now that does not work.So now my pc makes 3 beeps at a time. What can i do to make the pc work again? I have took out the battery, and jumpers some told me to do,but all i am getting is beeps.
