I dont think it is the data type but rather the DVD media itself. Some DVD disks are burned with different encoding and may result with incompatibility, but I am not aware of mac/pc problems.
There are simple software available to convert files from MAC to PC if you look it up on search.

Some Mac CD's/DVD's can't be read by windows. Ther formatting of the disk is different

Mac uses a totally different platform than your IBM machine and of course uses it's own formatting and extension filing system. .avi is not one of them. Larry RadioShack 01-9590

I might be wrong, but Mac's burn ISO-9660/UDF. You might need to load UDF window drivers on your PC.
