Just uninstall IE7 from add/remove. It screws up a lot of programs. Uninstalling it will restore IE6.

I have posted this advice several times and will continue to do so in an effort to reach as many of you as possible. IE7 is full of a lot of garbage. It has not been fine tuned. I think it was tossed out here for everyone to download as a pilot program and has caused a tremendous number of problems for a lot of people. There have been a tremendous number of people who have posted questions in here as a result of problems with IE7. If what you have works then please don't try to "make it better" with IE7. If any of you care to join in and help get the word out it might help prevent a lot of potential problems.

I'd reinsert the XP disc if it came with the computer or if you have one and reinstall it to be honest. Failing that, get a new PC and get Windows 7.

when you run chkdsk do you type chkdsk c: /f /r
NOTE: The /f command automatically fixes any errors encountered, the /r command locates bad sectors and recovers readable information.

Easy, do this:
Click START / Run / and type RegEdit
then Click EDIT and FIND (CTRL-F) and type in MPFSERVICE.exe. Whenever this word pops up under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE heading, delete the reference.
MPFSERVICE.exe - this SHOULD be a reference to "McAfee Personal Firewall Services" but it could ALSO be a AdWare renamed to make you think it is McAfee!
Good luck

If you just installed explorer, try to use the "system restore" option to set your computers settings to the state they were in before you installed it, if possible.
