I hate to tell you, but the Dell XPS 400 is a Pentium 2 400Mhz PC. There is very little that you can do to make things better. You have an Intel 440BX chipset with an AGP 1X/2X slot, a 100Mhz FSB, and Sdram slots for memory.

Build a new budget gaming PC! Here's a good list of basic components and the approximate price you should be paying for each :

ATX Case w/350+Watt Power Supply $40
Nvidia Nforce AM2 Mainboard $65
AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Retail Cpu $115
160GB Sata Hard Drive $55
16X DVD+-RW $30
Nvidia 7600GS $100
1GB DDR2 $90
WinXP Home $90

so, $585 and you have a really nice basic gaming PC that will play anything currently out very well. You can also upgrade easily to dual core processor, up to 4gb of ddr2, faster video cards, etc, as you need to.

good luck! And if you have to buy a pre-built PC, make sure it has an open PCI Express x16 slot so that you can put a gaming video card in it!

While you cannot overclock, you are perfectly free to upgrade both RAM and your video card. You currently have a 375 Watt power supply, so you might need to upgrade that to use they really high end video cards, although it is not entirely necessary. How far you can upgrade really depends on your budget, if you could give me an email with your budget and what your current RAM and video card is, then I could give you some suggestions. My email is in my profile.

Get yourself a new video card preferably the:

ATI Radeon X1900 CrossFire 512

then go to Dell and get another gig of memory to shove in your machine and you should be all set.
