Desktops - August 2006

I'm trying to find a new desktop. It needs to be compatable with my mp3 player. My mp3 player requirements are

Microsoft® Windows® XP (Service Pack 1 or higher) / XP 64-bit
Intel® Pentium® II 350 MHz or AMD K6-2® 450 MHz (Pentium III 450 MHz or higher recommended for MP3 encoding)
64MB RAM (128MB recommended)
USB 1.1 port (USB 2.0 recommended for faster transfers)
170MB free hard drive space (more for audio content storage)
CD-ROM drive with digital audio extraction support

I have no idea what all of this means. Do most new computers have these components? I can only spend about $600-$700. Any suggestions,help or info will be greatly appreciated. thanks

Yesterday, due to bad weather, our electricity kept cutting out. My computer got shut down by this several times. I was then converting songs in my itunes library to mp3 when I tried to access my recycle bin from desktop. The usual screen popped up for a second, then the 'error report' box appeared. I sent an error report, but have got no reply. Can anyone help PLEASE!! (Please explain your answers very basically, as I am not a computer whizz!!) THANKS.

when i see the temp, it is 48c. Which is fine, i suppose.. But if i work on some software like illustrator or photoshop it works fine.
what can be the problem. Also the screen on monitors keeps on shaking whenever i work...

My ex said he pulled out the extra drive, but left everything else alone (yeah right). I'm afraid he killed my computer. Please Help!! It will turn on, start the BIOS (?) then says "boot from disk" did he wipe everything?

When it start the HP the screeen goes total black after the Xp splash screen. The only other mode work is the Safe mode and the VGA mode. Whn in VGA mode when I change to higher resolution or colour the screen turn blank like the startup. I suspect some display problem. Any idea? Please, professional technical suggestion only. The machin is past its warranty/service contract date. There are no virus and the display card is neither Intel, ATI, nor nVidia.

I read about many accounts of people not getting their rebates and their rebates mysteriously getting rejected. Anyone had an eprience with Emachines? Please tell me if you got your rebates or not cuz im considering to buy one.

They're at about 3 to 4 ghz right now. How fast will they be in 10 years from now? 10 ghz? 20 ghz? How long before they are in the Terrahertz? LOL When the first IBM PC came out in the late 70's/early 80's, it was 4 mhz! Think how long ago that was, and now they are almost 4 ghz.

when it comes to computers im pretty much lost. I got a dell xps 200 a little while back. Can you tell me if my system is any good.

Do you think it is an ok system, what upgrdes do you think i may need for video games and such. Also is dell a good system to have.

I'm asking this out of pure curiosity. :) Does anyone other than myself still have, and use, a Macintosh running OS 9.2 (or lower?)

I have a G3 iMac that doesn't have enough memory OR hard drive space to "comfortably" upgrade to even the oldest OSX. Basically, if I did, my Mac would run as slow as a snail AND I'd only be able to have about ONE program open at a time, otherwise I'd risk a memory-related crash. I can't operate like that! Hence, I can't upgrade to OSX .

Of course, I also have a great multimedia laptop running Windows XP, so it's not like I'm "stranded" with a dinosaur. *chuckle* I use my laptop for certain important things, but I still use my Mac desktop for certain other things that it's still great at. For example, I have Adobe Photoshop on there, and I use that program a lot for both biz and personal use. I also have some truly classic Mac games on there that I love!

Anyway, if you have an OS 9.x Mac, for whatever reason, please stand up and be counted! :)

My monitor,keyboard,and mouse wont work?? The green light on monitor comes on, then I can hear the monitor shutoff. Nothing from the key board or mouse.My computer is powering up fine, fans are runnning,no beeping,ect.. It was given to me so iam not sure what all has been done to it. My tower is a hp pavillion a310n.
I have tryed to reset the bios. The hp logo screen showed but that was all. when I tryed to get in to safe mode all I got was a black screen with a small red dash at the top middle of screen. Please HELP!!! thanks.

I have a SB Audigy 2 ZS and when i hook my headphones into the sound card, the sound doesnt go through the headphone. But the mic still works. Can someone please tell me how to transfer the sound into my headphones?

CPU TYPE:INTEL CELORON[Yes i know it sucks dont cry]

And an IBM
Specs

my old celeron d was a 2.5 ghz one and i'm replacing the motherboard along with a new processor that is an athlon xp 2.2 ghz 3700+ and i was wondering if i could still acces my old hdd with the replacement as the primary drive and still be able to use the files in the hdd. its not a very old hdd. i've windows xp by the way on the hdd..
