I'm trying to find a new desktop. It needs to be compatable with my mp3 player. My mp3 player requirements are

Microsoft® Windows® XP (Service Pack 1 or higher) / XP 64-bit
Intel® Pentium® II 350 MHz or AMD K6-2® 450 MHz (Pentium III 450 MHz or higher recommended for MP3 encoding)
64MB RAM (128MB recommended)
USB 1.1 port (USB 2.0 recommended for faster transfers)
170MB free hard drive space (more for audio content storage)
CD-ROM drive with digital audio extraction support

I have no idea what all of this means. Do most new computers have these components? I can only spend about $600-$700. Any suggestions, help or info will be greatly appreciated. thanks

OK, to make it plainer:
Has to have Windows XP (standard on new computers today)

Processor:
Pentium II 350 or better (That is about a 5-6 year old chip - so anything new today will be way beyond this requirement)
Or
AMD 450 or better (Again, this is a 5-6 year old chip - so any new computer with an AMD chip will exceed this requirement)

Memory:
64MB (128 recommended) - Today it would be impossible to find a new computer running less than 256m of memory. So any new computer will exceed this.

USB port. Have been standard on PCs since the early 90's. Any new computer will meet this

CD-ROM dirve. Standard on all new computers

170MB free disk space. Most new computers today will come with 100 times that space free or more.

The requirements listed descript a 5-6 year old computer. Anything new you buy today will more than meet the requirements. They are intended to worry you that you might not be able to use the player on an ancient, used PC.

Any Computer today can satisfy that requirement. Don't you have a PC right now; but I think installing WinXP will require a slightly higher requirement. U can easily get such a machine with these minimal requirements in any hardware store under your budget. Or, it might be that you get an even better PC if you plan to buy second-hand. Choice is yours!!
