Basically, it depends on what is the need of your computer.
There is different type of casings out there in the market. From standard to extreme casing. If you have seen branded PC before, you'll notice that their casing is heavier. The reason for this is that heavier casing provides more stability to the CPU itself, thus reducing the vibrations. Vibrations during running of the computer will cause failure to the hard disk. That is why some clone pc hard disk will fail first within the 1st year while branded can last to few year.
there is other things to consider, if you are a overcloaking guy. if you do, then u'll need a casing that can provide cold temperatures. this type of casing can fit in a water based cooler. :)
other things you'll need to know is the no of PCI/graphic slots behind the casing. Casings have different sizes from mid-ATX, full-ATX and etc. normally casings should be same for your motherboard type. Definately you can fit in a full-ATX board into a small ATX casings. E;g. if ur board has 6 slots, but ur casing has only 4 slots, then you can't fully utilise ur motherboard.
Next would be ur configurations in terms on no of CD driver or hard disk you would like to have. Some casings have 2 5.12 inch drive bays for the CD-Rom and 2 2.5 inch drive for floppy or zip drive(should be obsolete now). thjen some might have only 2 hard disk bays and some mght have 4..
There is also some casings for extreme games out there. this type of casing have temperature readings for specific parts of the CPU, namely graphic card area, processor, memory and overall casing temperature. This temperature reading is helpful for gamers to know the load on their PC and there is mechanism to lower it by changing the fan speed in the casing. This type of casing have many fans around the back and side of the casings.. each designed to improve the air flow and keep the temperature in control. Overheating will spoilt or damage the PC board and etc.
so casing should always depend on your what configuration you'll have in terms of motherboard type (no of PCI slots), hard disks, disk drives.

May sure you keep all the papers that you get with it. Get copies of purchases in duplicate because if there are rebates you must send all in and keep one for your self, the company will try every excuse there is not to give you your rebate. Pay cash, not credit card, or payment plan, CASH. The reason I say this is they love cash, for something, you always get free gifts when you purchase with cash. or discounts. Over and above what is stated. Good luck with your new computer.
