Hardware - October 2007

Game works on laptop, but not on desktop, other games work but when i put it in the disc tray, almost as if game isn't there?! We know that the game isn't scratched and we know that the disc drive just isn't picking it up?! Help plz?! Cheers, :S

I have an old GO VIDEO DVD recorder and it allows me to record analog 8mm and VHS tapes onto a DVD disk (either DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, or DVD+RW) but my computer doesn't recognize the file when I try to download it. I would like to edit the file with an editing software (I have Nero). Is there some step that I am missing to convert the analog file to a digital file? DVD recorder doesn't allow me to save the file in any format such as MPeg, AVI, WMA, etc. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

It is a solo 2500 gateway laptop it will not boot to cd only to the hard drive . I am trying to inter setup or bios to change that but I am encountering a password protected board, no password.

(When I turned it on, the main page was enlarged/had larger letters but whatever sight I go to it doesn't show the "full page" & I have to adjust or move the "< >" tool bars to see the full page, you know what I mean? ("settings" didn't show anything, or do I need to look it up?)

when i am ideally keep pc if suddenly power faiked means the battery back up will come with out restarting the pc. if suppose i am using internet, suddenly the power failed the pc will restart immediately and provide back up for 15 minutes. but the unknown thing is why the pc is restarting when i am in work? i putting the power supply on continuously to ups.but pc restarting?where the problem in ups or pc or software or smps? where wat is the solution. furtherly if i want to talk with u means how ?

I have an Epson cx6400. Recently, I loaded new ink cartridges. It took a little bit of jiggling the printer to make it accept the re-used cartridges, but the printer ink level window shows that they are now full 100%. My printer does not print. The nozzle check prints a blank sheet and I have run the head cleaner. I have also turned the printer off and on.

ok i have a pc at home and well i went on apple.com and i saw mac os x and well it looks like a program that can be installed on the mac. but can it be downloaded on to a pc?

I currently have two 512mb sticks of Kingston PC3200 ddr RAM in my computer. Can I add 2 more 512mb sticks if they are Samsung PC2700 ddr ram, even though the PC number is different? I do have the available slots and my motherboard can handle up to 4gb. Thanks!

It is about 1 year old next month, runs Windows Vista, has 80GB hard drive, 768MB RAM, Intel Celeron D processor. I use the disc defragmenting program about every two weeks and use disc cleanup every 3-4 days. I don't think there are any viruses on it.i had thought about putting in even more RAM and a second hard drive and possibly even a new processor.
Can u think of anything that would make it quicker?

My monitor's display went sideways all of a sudden. It is a desktop using WINDOWS XP with a wireless keyboard and mouse. Any one have any ideas as to how I get it back to 'normal'? I may have hit a key on my keyboard, but don't really know. I've tried rebooting the computer, and I've tried the monitor settings on the monitor itself, and neither worked.

OK. I am getting another mobo to replace the cut rate Dell 1100 dimension one I have now, as it does not have Pcie slots or a good on board media. The reason I am doing this is because I would like to use the Celeron D cpu I have on the dell and put it into the other mobo and overclock it (until I can buy a 775 dual core cpu). The grapics unit on the new mobo, while not the greatest are above and beyond the crappy on board graphics I have now. So my plan is to take the hard drive, the memory and the processor from the Dell and transfer it over to the new mobo. Does this sound right and doable? Did I miss anything?

Hi, i am confused on the differences between Intel's and AMD's implementation of Quad-Core virtualisation. Am I right in understanding that when *not* using a multi-threaded application, that each application only gets assigned one core, but AMD's version utilizes all four cores even with single threaded applications? And if so, do all AMD quad-core CPU's support this? Thanks.

A strange problem occurs with my DVD Drive/Writer.The problem is that sometimes a newely burnt DVD when inserted reads the DVD as a,either blank or does not read at all.However the same DVD works fine with other DVD Drives/Writer.Is there any software to slove such problem.

I have a powerbook g4 867Mhz 256MB which runs OS X 10.2.8. I'm thinking of upgrading to 10.3 or 10.4 to be able to install OpenOffice and get the wireless connecting to my WPA network.

I have seen 3 computers at my office, as well as my personal computer at home, that have a failed -5V lead on the power supply. I've been looking for information on the internet, but haven't found anything yet. Has anyone heard of any software or hardware issues that could be causing this failure?
