Contact Manuf of laptop with proof that you are GENUINE owner of said laptop and ask their advise.

There is "usually" a service password that will let you in.

Alternatively GOOGLE the model + "bios password" to see if you find anyone with answer on teh WWW

Removing the CMOS battery briefly will remove all passwords. Replace the battery, and you will be ready to run. Be careful to unplug the computer, handle things carefully.

Check gateway's site for instructions on how to clear the password from that model of laptop.

It may not be possible for you to do it(on IBM laptops it's a case of send it back to IBM for them to do it... costs more than a laptop, so a great disincentive to steal laptops).
