Let me try to be a bit more clear. I know some laptops have the capability to watch live tv. My new Acer does not, therefore, I am interested in a piece of internal hardware that would allow me to watch both analog and hd television.

Since you want HD, you narrowed down the list, and got rid of any internal(express card) options.

It's up to you to decide how often to replace your computer. To always have the newest technology, it's pretty common to replace a computer every three years or so. I'm not aware of too many laptops that come with TV tuners, but you might be able to have one built.

I don't think any laptop comes with a TV tuner built-in. That would be a surprise.

Honestly, technology marches on so quickly and consistently, the most advanced computer sold today will be beat by a faster, better, cheaper model in two years. It's inevitable.
