I am knew to Mac and I want to know if there is anything I need to do to maintenance it. I remember with PC I did a disk clean up and defragged it every night. Is there something similar with Mac computers? So please let me know and thanks for all your answers.

i have a hp dv6000 with 2gb of ram n plenty of storage. i think 140gb if not more.. but ne way since ive had the laptop the startup/shutdown is way to long imo. i went threw msconfig n stopped almost 80% of startup programs but it takes awhile still. bout 2min to get to welcome screen then bout 5 mins of just a black screen until my desktop appears. its running vista. ne advice

Was messing round with my CPU and took it out. Dell e310 also did it with my emachines t4060. Is the thermal paste toxic and can get absorbed into the skin? I washed my hands afterwards. And what about in some GPU coolers on video cards. took heatsink off of a GFX 5200 and got the thermal paste on my hand.

It is hard to explain what it is doing. Sometimes it just flickers into a dimmer projection, sometimes the images on the screen and the windows become distorted. Colors will sometimes become inverted. It can be temporarily fixed just by grabbing the screen and sort of twisting it slightly. I don't know if it would be a problem with the video card since twisting the screen makes it turn back to normal. Any ideas?

for example I have only one 128 MB of RAM(yes it is slow) DDR PC1300. I want to know if I can just remove this one and put in one that is at least 512MB or 1GB. Does it have to be any specific RAM, I checked that website that people give and it didnt have any info for my computer.

Currently have a Gateway GT5098E Media Center, and crucial.com claims my motherboard can work with DDR 4000 memory. Found a deal on DDR2 4200 Memory, but Im not sure of it's backward compatibility and dont want to waste the money if it's not going to even work. If someone can help me out it's appreciated. Please help!

When you turn it on all three of the fans start up and then quit, then they start again and quit again repeatedly. The leds on the power supply and the switch blink while this is happening. I dont think anything else gets power because their leds do not turn on at all(such as the ethernet plug or the DVD drive). Could it be my power supply? Or could my motherboard be bad? I dropped the computer a while back and it had the same problem, so I took everything out of the tower cleaned it and put it all back and It has worked until now. Confused and Lost...

I don't have a taskbar, like the bar at the bottom of your screen that has the start button n stuff. I have absolutely no desktop... like no image or icons just a blank white screen. I don't have the scrollbar thing when I touch the side of my touchpad on this laptop... my default settings like the appearance for my computer has obviously been removed... I can no longer control the sound cause when I turn it up it doesn't work...

was it hacked?

when the grpahcis card isnt plugged in the pc boots up adn screen displays something otherwise if i place it on the motherboard it won;t boot up

I have always used my usb flash drive at work without any problems. I recently went to a conference where I was given a multi card reader (by a friend). I plugged the new device into my machine at work and now that's the only device it can read.

When I plug my usb flash drive in, it lights up and windows makes the sound that a device has been attached - but it doesn't show up in my drive list. The flash drive works fine in other computers.

The USB ports I have are USB 2.0 and I'm assuming that the card reader is only USB 1.1 - which is what's caused the problem.

Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Ok I was looking to buy a desktop but then I decided to buy a laptop instead. I just need your opinion if this laptop is good.

Is this a average laptop?
I know it says ram is not upgradeable but it is I read the customer reviews and it says it is upgradeable and is the ram good?
How good is the prcessor?
Is the hardrive good enough to watch movies?
How good is the video card?
Will I only need a router or I'll need additional stuff?
What softwares are there that I need?
Would you buy if you were 15 and didn't have a lot of money?
Other things I need to know?

okay this might sound crazy and if it can't be done then damn it..someone needs to find a way,....ok this might be a stupid question but I'm going to ask it anyways lol..here it goes....is there a way to hook my television and use it as a monitor for my computer...I have been watching shows on my computer and my screen is 17'' soooo I was wanting to see if i could use my regular television as a monitor for my computer so that the screen would be bigger and I could enjoy the shows better....If there is a special red, white, and yellow cord thingy...or a special cord to put in the back of my modem, and the back of my television FYI I have windows vista, and a desktop....thanks

I have all my music on my iTunes on our main computer, but I just got a laptop of my own.
How can I get all of my music from one iTunes to another?
And do I need to create a new account on my laptop, or can I some how sign into my old account?

What is a good external hard drive that could could be plug in to my router? Personally I like Windows wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more then macs. And I think they most certainly are better then Mac unless you want to use the mac for graphic design.

Anyway I'm gathering reasons for why Windows are better then mac. Can you fellow windows users out there tell me what you like more about windows then mac.

I've used both but I like Windows better. :)

Like the words have a little bit of a shadow type thing behide them, and when I go to screen revolution it says 1024 by 768 with a 32 bit color and I've tried to change the screen revolution the screen like moves over all the way to the right side of the screen and resting it doesn't help the blur go away but it helps the part where it moves over all the way to the right side of the screen but I just can't get the fuzz to go away and it's hurting my eyes and is veryy annoying... anyone know what I can do?

last night, my computer was working perfectly fine and normal, and nothing seemed to be wrong with it. so i shut it down for the night because it had been on for sevral days and it needed a reboot. so this morning, i tried turning it on, and it brought me to the normal log in screen. i entered my password, but then the start menu and desktop items didn't show! I thought it was just a matter of time getting them to load, but that was obviously not that case. I tried accsessing task manager, but nothing worked. I really hope i dont need to reformat beause i don't have my iTunes library backed up (many many songs). So please, any help wanted!! Thank you!!

my friend is getting a new computer soon and he wants X1950PRO but i think he sould get a saphire. but he likes the HIS which i have never had so i dont know how their performance is but i have had 3 saphire's so i think that that one would be best. what do you all think.
