Usually after inactivity but not always my hard drive just goes nuts doing whatever it does. I am not working with a lot of files and sometimes I don't do anything. I just starts whirring away for ten or more minutes at a time. I don't have any scheduled backups or scans or anything like that when it does this. It is very annoying because when it is doing this I can't do much else because it is so busy.

My old Dell Dimension desktop hasnt worked for a while. I push the start button, and nothing happens whatsoever. I want to transfer all my Itunes and videos to my new Gateway Laptop, but I dont know if I should go through with the expense of getting it to start long enough for a data transfer, or whether I should just give it up and toss the thing. I figure, either way I am screwed. I would prefer not to lose all my Itunes that I paid good money for.

I have an XP and know how to use that thing back and forth all over the place, now I got a windows Vista and it sucks, how in the heck am I supposed to use it? I downloaded an .exe that I made myself and it says "This is made by an unknown publisher, are you sure you want to use it?" I say yes and it doesn't do a thing, and I've tried to install various programs and it just doesn't do anything, AND I ALSO tried to install that "Upgrade your Windows Vista Experience" disc that came with it, it took about an hour before it said, the disc was not installed successfully, so is XP just better all the way? or what? is Vista for old people who sit around and do finances all the time? 'cause it's sure not good for anything I've tried...

I have a Dell Inspiron B120. I dropped it once. The CD ROM still works, but when I push the tray in, it still sticks out a little bit after it latches. I was wondering how hard it is to take apart and adjust so that it won't stick out.

I found which RAM to get but am confused on how to install it...I have a 256 RAM card, but I understand there are 2 slots for RAM. Can I add a 512 RAM card to the other slot or do the cards have to match? (i.e. both 256) Is it very difficult to install? Thanks in advance if u have any suggestions!

When I send a document to print (from any program) the status monitor appears and then nothing happens. Sometimes a message box appears saying 'Alloc size= (random number)' if I click 'okay' it disappears but nothing happens. What is 'Alloc'? What's wrong with the printer? The computer says it's ready to print and the printer's status says 'ready'. The computer's troubleshooter and the manufacturer's troubleshooter can't work it out. The printer is an Epson C86 and was working fine until today. I can't get to the shop to buy a new one until Saturday and am very annoyed. PLEASE HELP!

Hi,

I am planning to buy a mac book with the following specs:

# 1.83GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
# 512MB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x256
# 60GB Serial ATA drive @ 5400 rpm
# Combo Drive (DVD-ROM/CD-RW)
# Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
# AirPort Extreme Card & Bluetooth

I am looking at using the mac book to do

1. internet browsing
2. chatting
3. office related work like document preparations (word and spreadsheet types)
4. watching movies
5. listening to music

I do not intend to run do any graphics and video editing with my mac book. Will 512 be sufficient to operate mac book, its default software and carry out the above activities without any slow downs?

Thank You.

I have a Western Digital Passport portable external hard drive that is no longer recognized by any computer. I have data on here that I would like to save, however, I can't afford the several hundred dollar fees that I've been quoted by data retrieval services. Is there anyway to do this on the cheap? Also, I don't want to completely void my warranty becasue the company has agreed to replace the drive but I would definitely loose all of my data. Thanks.

problems with installation so I'm starting from scratch. I think I need to disable the onboard video first in the device manager. Then disable it in the bios. Then install the card? But when I disable it in the device manager and restart the computer I won't be able to see anything, so how am I goin to switch it in the bios? the card says that I have to disable onboard before I install. I think thats whats I did wrong last time. Can somebody please clarify the proper steps involved.
