It's hard to tell without analyzing your PC, but it's possible that your HDD is partitioned so that you have one 16GB partition and one 144GB partition. Sometimes manufacturers use one partition to install the OS, and then set up a 'virtual' second drive for normal files.

Check to see if you have a c: and a d: on your PC

Two possibilities, a) Old BIOS: so you BIOS doesnt recognize more than 16GB. b) You have some non windows supported partition for example ext3 for Linux. You can try Partition Magic or any other partitioning softwares to look for other partitions because normally it wont show.

Well depending on what brand it is you will probably have to have the disc for that hard drive you have to have it to setup the hard drive because hard drives with a size of over so many gigabytes have to have that program to make windows setup recognize it.
if that don't work you might have to look for the program on a website maxtors program is max-blast that is probally the prob or else somin is wrong with the hard drive and you don't want that! :(

Check your BIOS and file type (FAT - FAT16 - NTFS).
