depends on the cartridge.
on most there will be a piece of sticky paper saying what cartridge or whatever. usually on the top of the cartridge, remove same
colour cartridge you will see hole with three different colour pieces of foam when you peer in. Take the syringe that comes with the bottles of ink fill with the corresponding colour and stick the needle into the foam, squeeze syringe this will be fairly hard to do as you are injecting ink into foam, when a small amount appears in the hole suck it back into the syringe so you don't overfill. repeat with all colours, replace cartridge. Run printer cleaning programme if you have it. finish
the instructions say leave the holes uncovered ( sticking anything over them could jam the carriage)
I use a separate syringe for each colour if you only have one clean very carefully after each colour.
Bear in mind this invalidates any guarantee on your printer

You don't need to open an ink cartridge to refill it. For my HP 56 and 57 printer cartridges, I bought a kit with an injector for the refill ink. There are holes on top under the label that you can punch the needle injector through. I think you can feel with your fingertip and find them without removing the label. When finished refilling, wipe off the excess ink and place a small piece of cellophane tape over the hole(s) before replacing. The instructions came with my refill kit. I recommend you work over the sink or a newspaper and wear old clothes.
Your cartridge may be different, but I hope this helps some.

Seriously... I've gone down this road before. You don't want to do it. Even if you refill your printer's ink cartridge, chances are that your software will still report it as empty. Walgreens will refill your ink cartridge for half the price of buying a new one. Most office supply stores will give you discounts for recycling your old ink cartridge.

Unfortunately, most cartridges can not be refilled because of a microchip on the cartridge itself.
You are better off just purchasing generic cartridges rather than refilling them.
You do not need to purchase the higher priced brand cartridges. We purchase the off brand Epson cartridges for our printer. I get them for about $7 or $10, plus I do not have worry about the hassle of refilling them.
Despite what some people say.. it does NOT void your warranty to use off brand cartridges. I found an article about this online if you want to read more about this, go to cheapinkcartridges.com and click on the FAQ link.
There are hundreds of sites online to purchase these cartridges.
