i am saving up my money for a really nice laptop for college. i want it to last a long time because i plan on staying in college for a long time. any brand names good? whats the best? do you usggest PC or macs? i've never tried a mac and i dont want to spend that much money and then not like it...anybody have any answers??

I have a life times worth of family photographs, picture slides, negatives, video camera recorded tapes, and video tapes!!!!

All to be transferred onto CD or DVDs

Any advice would be gratefully received!

I am planning to go out and buy a new lap top, and need to get everything else to go with it. So if you were setting up for the first time what would you recommend????

Easy to work - I am not blonde, I am a silver surfer, so need EASY to understand and deal with equipment.

I found an amazing font for my friend to use… except, they use an iMac. Will this stop them in anyway from using it? And is it actually compatible? (It’s a .ttf).

Also, if it IS compatible… how do you install it on a Mac? I know for Windows it’s X:\WINDOWS\Fonts.

And sorry, I don’t know what version of Mac they use.

I ordered a Media XP edition ready pc from Dell. It is a Dimension e510. It was to be shipped with 160gb hard drive, 2gb memory, and the remote media package. Since then my phone bill is over $300.00 and my hours on this pc over 20 trying to get this thing to work right. Mother board replaced already too. I had to buy 2gb memory from Dell; and they call saying I am behind and I am being charged late fees. If you do buy a Dell, get the contract on paper first! They have only said that this what the invoice asked for! Not the phone call to them. I spoke with Mike--724476--. Getting the rebates took over 2 mnonths of phone and pc [library's] to straighten out. Never got the wireless mouse pkg either.
I baught this in March of 2006 and have No desire to do so again! If this had came equipped as specified, maybe it would work. Not the Britain bound unbit [base] that I got; minus the features I asked for!!

I am thinking of either a brother or a canon. The cost of the ink is more of a consideration rather than the cost of the printer. Any advice on the cheapest way to get the ink for it aswell would be good.

I have a Lexmark 1180, never been happy with it the ink just runs away, and soon as it gets low no more printing? I don't mind the price £14 to£16 each black/colour but you expect a descent output for this money. also I want to start printing pictures, so please help, and I'm afraid that I'm also a beginner (novice) thanks if anyone sends me an answer.

I bought a Lexmark P6250 all in one printer and I am not happy with it and thus want to buy a new one. Can someone recommend a good all in one printer (less than £100) that allows for the refilling of ink cartridges, and whereby new ink cartridges are relatively cheap? The ink cartridges for my current printer do not allow for refilling, the ink goes really quickly even when I set it on quick print, and they cost a fortune to replace (£23 for a black ink cartridge). It is a complete rip off!!

I have a hard drive that is about to crap out. It's 6 or 7 years old now. Error log shows a lot of bad blocks. Is there anything i can do to disable these blocks or just extend the life of this drive?

Just installed a new motherboard ASRock 775i65G with an intel Pentium D 3.4GHz, 800MHz FSB, 2x2 MB L2 Cache.

Disconected everything except
RAM, 2 x 1GB pc3200 DDR C8C3
Floppy drive
Hard drives internal 40GB and 60GB one with windows XP installed

Conected a USB keyboard and monitor to the motherboards built in VGA plug, but when i turn it on everything fires up and the power light comes on, the CPU and case fans are both running but the screen stays blank. The harddrive light comes on for about 30 seconds then goes out.

Only thing i'm not 100% sure of is the RAM but i've been told by several people that it's all compatible including the board manufacturer.
Can't hear any POST beeping as i've not got and internal speaker connected, all my previous pc's had them built into the motherboard.
Do i need to connect a CD drive and put in the windows CD or the disc that came with the motherboard.

can't think what else to do???
Any ideas or suggestions welcomed.

i am planing to change my hp motherboard. since i cant take out the hp mobo. so i was planning to strip all of the parts of the hp comp and put it into another mobo. the cd/dvd, hdd, cpu and memory.

so i was wondering if i have to reinstall the microsoft xp.

i know hp uses the oem version of xp so can some one please help me on this one
