Due to a system crash I had to reinstall Windows XP, but because my hard drive is 300 gig Windows didn't pick it up properly.

I've had a read up and found that I need Windows XP with SP2 integrated to pick up my hard drive properly.

However before I knew this, I tried using Windows XP the original with no service packs integrated, and it picked my hard drive up as about 128 gig. I pressed F3 to quit so as not to change the partition table, only to find that Windows had created a 128 gig partition on my hard drive, but the partition is not accessible and I think I may have lost all the information that was on my drive.

I think it may have corrupted the boot block and have used various tools to rewrite the MBR, but still nothing.

Does anybody have any idea if I can restore the hard drive to how it was before the 128 gig partition was created, or of any software that will scan the drive and allow me to copy the contents to another drive.

Thanks in advance

I bought a Dell computer a couple months ago. It came with all the Driver cd`s. When I use the windows xp disk it came with, it doesn`t install my sound drivers or any drivers at all. it came with other disks for the drivers. So I guess the windows xp disk they gave me is nothing but a windows xp disk. If I tried to use that disk to install windows xp on an other compuer, will it work? or is it only going to work for dell computers? My guess, I think it should work on an another computer sence its just a windows cd. but on the disk, it does say DELL on it. Please and thank you for the answers.

I have the normal classic pc connections, one DVI and one Composite.

The graphics card i have is Ati Radeon X1600 PRO 512MB and am not sure of the other two ports what they are for. The wires i got with the card are one black male to male composite wire, one male to male yellow wire with a connector that is male composite to female connection for the yellow wire to connect to composite (this yellow wire is like the one you would find on a ps2 i think its called an RCA wire) , and one composite male to 3 female wires coloured red green blue.

i just dont know how to use these wires ie what they are supposed to be connected to and what purpose they serve.

i was cleaning my screen with liquid eyeglass cleaner (guilty) and as soon as i turned my Toshiba Satellite laptop on, i noticed a small portion of the screen at the bottom was brighter than the rest of the screen. i've tried everything from changing the resolution to rubbing the area, but nothing seems to work. any answers on how i can solve this without having to pay money? if there really is no solution other than that, then where do i go to repair a Toshiba Satellite laptop computer?
