As a technician, I can honestly say, all of the teckies I know agree that AMD makes a faster running chip.
When intel vs amd benchmark test have been run in the past, amd outperformed in all categories but heat dispursal. Amd has addressed that problem now.
Intel has AMD scrambling with the quad core, so AMD is playing catchup for the first time I can remember.
The dual core chips are a big step up, for intel, Here is a link with extensive information on the subject. I am currently running the exact Athlon chip above and have zero complaints...its fast and reliable.

We are having a computer built but the computer geek that is doing it said if we were to buy one, that the AMD Anthlon64 is the better of the 2.

well that pentium has a higher ghz rating than the amd 3800, so it would probably slightly faster, but i trust amd technology, my amd 4200 realy does well on any game, but you must make sure you have a good videocard as well or the processor wont do you any good.
