There’s a difference between a “flat screen” monitor and a “flat panel monitor.” If my assumptions re correct, you have a traditional CRT monitor with a glass screen; if so you can use a cleaner, I used to use it on mine all the time. However, if you have a flat panel, you should get special LCD wipes or a cleaning kit which are designed for the flat panel screen surfaces.

If this is an LCD screen, I use http://www.pixelclean.com . Don't use anything containing alcohol or ammonia. These harsh solvents could damage the film on the outter layer of the LCD screen. Also, use a mirco fiber cloth, not a paper towel.

If it's a CRT screen, any glass cleaner will work. LCD screens aren't made of glass, thus you should not use a glass cleaner on it.

Good luck.
