I just bought an external dvd burner and it came with Nero software. I have some movies on my comp in the .AVI format that I want to burn onto DVD for use on a home DVD player. I burned one already and it worked fine but it took about 2 hours and also it was "transcoding?" the file but that seems to be a limited trial with the software. So, is there a quicker way to burn and also is there a free transcoder program (or whatever I need) out there?

I am debating between a convertible tablet PC and a MacBook for my college laptop. The MacBook that I want is a tad less expensive and has more memory, but I'm thinking that I may need to get Windows for Mac so that I won't have any problems converting my assignments for professors. I have a friend who says she can give me a copy of Windows for Mac, but I 'm wondering if it will stop working once it figures out the copy isn't genuine. I know that Macs are more configured for pictures and music. While this feature is nice, my main objective for the laptop is to take notes, complete assignments, and do online research (in addition to checking email, etc).
I like convertible tablets, however, because I think that I would be able to write notes onto the screen during class, then transfer them into a Word file. For those who know, is this a realistic expectation? Will my professors let me have my laptop whenever I need to take notes on it?

Overall, which do you think I should get?

The problem i'm having is every time i switch on my pc the monitor goes to standby and will not turn on i have tried 2 monitors and they both do the same thing so i cant use my pc cause the monitor keeps staying on standby, I have tried to disconect everything and even un-plugged it all and it still keeps going to standby....Can someone tell me how to fit this please...the monitor is samsung syncmaster and the pc tower is Bonsai 1008 this computer is around 5/6 years old and has worked fine up to the past week.

It is a choice between a Samsung Intel core duo, 1 GB Ram 80 GB hard drive and a Samsung core 2 duo 1 GB ram 100GB hard drive.

I understand there is a difference between Intel core duo and core 2 duo. I want to know what the difference is, pros and cons and/or which would be best for storing 4000 karaoke (CD+G) tracks and playing them through a PA system.

Also, is there any difference between a laptop and notebook?

The usb port that I plug things such as my printer/mouse into is really touchy. I have 2 ports so I am using the other one right now, but it seems like the other one doesn't work and I have to jiggle my cord a certain way to even get it to connect and then it doesn't remain connected. I have no idea how to go about this but is it possbile to go buy another port and replace it or do I have to have a professional look into it? I have a Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop and have had it for about 3 1/2 years now. Thanks!

I have a Time, AMD Athlon AMD 2200+ with 512mb of RAMan d 1.8ghz. I just want to tweak my pc a little and get it to run quicker, however although i know a little, i dont know a lot, I can upgrade to 1mb ram, however, how do i know whether or not it is ddr or sd ram i need, also where is the old ram in the casing and do i just simply replace it, (as I did with my laptop)?

I am looking for a good source for cheap and used PC parts. In particular, I nedd a Pentium III Tualatin 1.4GHZ and I really don't want to pay more then $30.00 or so dollars because it is such old technology. Any ideas?

i got the notebook in august 06

and decided to take the stickers off : |

because of that there are sweat/dirt stains and you can still see the marks the stickers left

is there anyway to make my laptop look like new again?

About two days ago I noticed that everything on my LCD monitor is blurred, fuzzy (as if you had bad vision and it's not my vision everyone else notices it as well). The monitor is not old, I bought it less than six months ago. I noticed it happened after I chose to print something. Does this have anything to do with it? How can I fix the blurred screeen?

I have two ddr400 dimms. 512mb each. and i want to buy this motherboard:

however, it says it supports ddr533. but it doesnt remark if its possible if that could work with ddr400.

what i want to do is use those ddr400 on this motherboard, while i get my ddr533 next week. but i dont know if its possible it could damage my dimms or the motherboard if i do that.

please help!!! can i use them, or do I have to wait until i get my ddr533??
