i'm just curious how many people with optical mouses use mousepads. I have an optical mouse and I took away the mousepad and it still seems to work fine

Yup as long as the optical mouse has a high resolution it will work fine. I kissed mousepads goodbye ages ago.

Generally speaking, it works fine. The only reason for a pad would be if the surface under the pad is very glossy or very uniform. In this case the mouse can have a hard time detecting movement.

More important is the smoothness and color of the surface. Lighter colors are better for the optical mouse. And no, I don't use a pad either.

It doesn't make any difference.
They work fine w/o pads.

I use a pad and still have to clean the sliders every couple of days.
