Is is a good idea to buy one now or shall i wait for a while? Here are the specs of the one i will get if i do.

i can burn cds fine, but i've tried 2 different programs to burn dvds and it will not do it.

i've used DVD-CLONER4, NERO 7, DVD Shrink, nothing works in any way

i'm suspecting the BURNER for the DVD is not working...how can i test it?

NERO 7 has a TESTING ROOM and when i have a blank DVD inside the drive, i CANNOT run any tests, but if i insert a blank CD it will run all the tests fine

could it be that the dvd burner be.... burned?

I feel dumb asking this, but I just bought an external hard drive and FireWire is new stuff to me. I have the unit connected to my PC via FireWire 400 using a six foot cable. Would switching to a three foot cable make my transfers faster?

I have this prehistoric computer, with a 1.9g CPU and 512RAM. About a year ago I put in a Nvidia 6800GS AGP 256mb video card, which seemed like a boost from my 64mb old one. With the new one I was able to jumpstart Oblivion (the old one couldn't support all the shading so it gave me dark screen during game play). If I was to give this old pc one more push, do you think that upgrading RAM would be beneficial, or should I just get a new motherboard, a new video card and start the saga all over again?

My 82year old dad is coping very well with his new pc on the whole but has just lost a 19 page document on it that we CANNOT find! He has probably made mistakes saving it.
We do have an earlier printed unrevised copy so I am wondering if it is possible to scan it back onto the pc and then do the revisions/additions again onto the new document? Any advice as to how to go about this will be gratefully received.The pc has WindowsXP if that makes any difference.

I have this basic Compaq Presario c300 and I was wondering how can I improve the overall speed. It is currently equiped with 512mb ram as intended by manufacturer. If I remove the 512 and put a good brand 2gig in there instead, will it change much. Would I also be able to change the CPU from a 1.7gig to something faster?

I was trying to hear music from my laptop's speakers and also hear that same music in my heaphones plugged in the headphone jack. Is there an option so that the laptop's speakers don't mute when I plug in my headphones? Plz help thanks.
